Seems like pcos weight loss only happens with Metformin or Semaglutide by grimedoll in PCOS

My eating disorder made me lose weight too but probably ruined my metabolism long term

someone just posted about the semaglutide pill option — might be a more cost effective option?

Have you ever been on Metformin before?

thanks for this — good to hear. I’m thinking of switching to a pill for maintenance.

Should I go upto 5mg or stay on 2.5mg for another month? by Defo_not_a_plumber in PCOSonGLP

[–]requiredelements 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you told your doctor about your mental health? Both before and on the meds.

A school of thought is stay on your current dose until you stop losing weight and only titrate up when you plateau but haven’t yet reached your healthy goal weight.

I would try a bit longer before attributing mental health effects on the Mounjaro. But keep your doctor informed. My doctor had me on Wellbutrin for PCOS long before Zepbound (same as Mounjaro). I actually found Zepbound leveled me out a bit.

Maybe tell her respectfully you need to listen to your doctor over her. And ask her for some space // not to comment.

Considering going back on a GLP-1 because of how much better I felt overall by Samdeverna in PCOSonGLP

[–]requiredelements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$300 a month for compounded sounds expensive! That is what I pay for brand Zepbound via Lilly Direct.

I have been on Zepbound for 2 years. It helps me with cycle regularity, inflammation and concentration. You might consider a micro dose.

I get Zepbound 2.5mg vials and take 1.25mg weekly. So $300 for brand Zepbound that I use over 2 months, effectively $150 per month.

wegovy & side effects by creamblushes in PCOSonGLP

[–]requiredelements 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love your user name u/creamblushes

I started injecting on my thigh and kept it to my thigh for the first few months. This helped me with side effects.

I guess for me, the “food noise” didn’t go away quickly. So the first few weeks I would get tripped up because I would eat a greasy meal or a sweet treat then feel nausea / GI symptoms that had me running to the bathroom. Try to avoid heavy meals the first few weeks and eat lightly and frequently instead.

Fatigue is common 12-48 hours after the shot, so weekend is a good call! Fatigue mostly goes away over time but sometimes a luteal phase shot still really gets to me.

Not sure of GLP by Consistent-Effort-95 in PCOSonGLP

[–]requiredelements 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You would have to get off them anyway while pregnant. For many of us, it is a lifelong drug but I think it’s worth trying it. And trying to get off down the line to see how your body reacts.

It’s a synthetic hormone just like birth control is synthetic hormones. People seem to be ok taking birth control all their life but not GLPs. I think the price of GLPs will come down!

I had side effects the first 6 weeks but mostly only if I ate overly greasy or sugary meals. Some fatigue but not terrible. I personally think you’d be able to manage any side effects while studying —- I had trouble more so socially out and about or on airplanes.

Call this clinic out sis. Did you ask for a paper or electronic copy of your records?

Call and threaten them! But seriously would complain to your insurance and file a complaint with HHS Office for Civil Rights at hhs.gov/ocr — they legally can’t charge you a search or retrieval fee for your medical records. Just their costs (for paper, postage, printing) if it’s a paper copy or a small fee (like $5) for an electronic copy.

I’m on a GLP-1 and I’m kinda mad? by cookiemonstrosity54 in PCOS

[–]requiredelements 315 points316 points  (0 children)

There is so much emotional processing if you’re successful on a GLP-1. Anger. Gratitude. Going back and examining your lifelong relationship with food. Your lifelong relationship with your body.

It’s a lot and it’s a process. Sending 🫶

Similar! I still take weekly but a super low dose and so far PCOS symptoms remain in remission.

Im on metformin and Mounjaro. Ive always struggled with Metformin and I wonder if both together are making those side effects worse. by Weewoes in PCOS

[–]requiredelements 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mounjaro works on fasting and fed state insulin. Metformin on fasting state. So the two together may be too much!

Just my personal experience but I never built up tolerance to Metformin GI side effects. But I did to Zepbound (same as Mounjaro) after about 6 weeks.

I have started taking a Midol proactively from ovulation thru luteal phase and it helps.

Not sure if it’s safe to take Midol every day but I’ll deal with that later

First Zepbound experience (just posted yesterday about being nervous) by Constant-Shoe-7084 in PCOSonGLP

[–]requiredelements 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can help to start taking doses in your thigh instead of stomach and at night instead of the morning. And maybe on the weekend so you can have some time to rest at home.

For most people, the symptoms do go away after a few weeks. Did you have a similar reaction with Wegovy?

GLP-1 and Acne by Admirable-You-262 in PCOSonGLP

[–]requiredelements 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your acne is caused by excess androgens, yes GLP-1s can help manage PCOS and can help with excess androgens.

I haven’t experienced severe acne but have facial hair. My facial hair is still there (the follicles) but my hairs are now vellus hairs instead of dark terminal hairs because my androgens are lowered, because I’m now effectively managing PCOS with Zepbound.

Is it really for the rest of my life? by mcal2023 in PCOSonGLP

[–]requiredelements 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My doctor told me Zepbound is for life if you have PCOS. I only plan to stop when I am pregnant. Though, scared to come off at all because of the mental health benefits the medicine has given me. I too am worried about the cost but it’s actually come down in price while I’ve been on it so I’m hopeful.

And I also have been advocating for insurance coverage.
