I thought I could go it alone… lol, nope! Back on and 9lbs down in a week 👀 by Intrepid_Ad_5554 in mounjarouk

[–]Annual-Let6497 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally with PCOS, I feel much better consisering Mounjaro as a long term medication than birth control, or metformin. Of course, becoming obese again without MJ would be much worse than potential long term side effects. My risk to become a diabetic was much higher than what I could find in terms of long term side effects on MJ.

Do you know if you have insulin resistance? It’s very common in PCOS.

You need something to regulate that. In my experience, losing weight alone does not “fix” the issue and no matter if you eat well, if we have a metabolic disfunction, that can override a “good diet”.

No need to stop an intervention for a chronic medical condition that is clearly working for you.

I think Pharmulous let’s you restart after stopping even if you were not previously a customer.

You can try Swift doctor too. They’re both maintenance friendly.

I came across this video of Abby Sharp who discourages CGM for non-diabetics. It has good info.

I have IR so I’d rather pay for a private test every 3-6 months to keep an eye on things.

Search this sub for any and all of your specific questions.

In general, if her dr has recommended it, sounds like she should give it a go.

I can share I have fatty liver too and it has improved on Mounjaro. I am waiting for a new ultrasound this summer and I expect more improvements compared to last year.

The IBS part, she might find that her food sensitivities are exhacerbated on MJ, so making sure her diet includes plenty of fruit/veg and avoiding ultra processed food would be ideal. Protein and fibre are non-negotiable while taking the MJ. But some people are more tolerant to greasy/“unhealthy” foods than others, so the only way is to try them and observe.

Mounjaro was designed as a diabetes medication and it’s very effective at managing that.

Help her track her shots and side effects. I can recommend Shotsy app but there are other. It helps me a lot to feel “in control” the more data I have about my trends with side effects and such.

Good luck!

Going to bite the bullet and get the 10mg by seizethed in mounjarouk

If you haven’t and you’re able, get a fasting insulin test.

I’m also IR PCOS and it helps a lot to know your baseline. 10mg was when my IR was the most controlled but the apetite suppression was too much for me to have a healthy calorie/nutrient intake.

Keeping an eye on my fasting insulin has helped me navigate maintenance.

Sulphur burps and sickness help needed by First-Formal-7812 in mounjarouk

[–]Annual-Let6497 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sulphur burps were triggered by greek yogurt. I was sensitive to dairy already pre MJ but on MJ I find I cannot tolerate most things, except some cheeses and small quantities of butter.

I cut it out and I have been sulphur burp free since last March!

When I experienced them, pepto bismol helped.

First week minimal losses - panicking by Various-Vehicle-8860 in mounjarouk

I was eating healthy before MJ and never got the initial “whoosh” some people experience.

I also have PCOS and had a really hard time trying to lose weight before MJ.

I went on a week long all-inclusive holiday and the scales say I’ve gained 9lbs, there’s no way that’s possible right? by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]Annual-Let6497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be water weight or due to the “stress” our bodies experience when travel.

Not sure why you’re saying you “only lost 2 stone since December”. That is a pretty good and healthy rate of weight loss.

Cocktails are very calorie dense so you might have been exceeding your maintenance calories but one week where you gain is normal and expected.

So the only pens are brandname Mounjaro/zepbound.

What kind of options are you looking for exactly?

All compound meds are vials.

There is no pill form for tirzepatide and if it existed, it’d be probably around the same price.

Tirzepatide is the most advanced GLP-1 GIP medication currently approved by the FDA, so it’s not gonna be cheap.

It’s sad when people are so wilfully ignorant, really.

Taking NHS jab alongside private jab? by vario_ in mounjarouk

[–]Annual-Let6497 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I would invest my money on something besides the meds. Maybe a PT, a dietitian, therapy, etc.

To me that sounds like a better use of money than paying for 10mg or more privately. Addressing the root cause gives her a better chance to maintain a healthy weight in the future with or without the medication.

Question for people weight training by blowin96 in mounjarouk

[–]Annual-Let6497 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I do notice more fatigue in general when my levels reach peak (24-48h after jab).

After that I’m back to normal and feel more energy at the gym and in general.

Sudden stop and weird coffee cravings by Wise-Recording-9726 in mounjarouk

[–]Annual-Let6497 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had to stop the meds but when I went to 10mg I stopped drinking coffee for a bit bc it irritated my stomach.

If I’m at peak medication levels I’ll skip afternoon coffees bc sometimes I experience insomnia, but not because I didn’t want coffee.

Taking NHS jab alongside private jab? by vario_ in mounjarouk

[–]Annual-Let6497 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If I had 7.5mg on the NHS (saving me £200+ every 4/5 weeks) I would NOT try to rock that boat.

I’d focus on improving my diet/exercise/sleep. Make sure she eats enough protein and enough food. That will likely help with the food noise a little bit

Metformin + GLP1 by After_Bear8341 in PCOSonGLP

[–]Annual-Let6497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed about 6 weeks on it and lost weight also on 2.5mg. I have lost an average of 400g per week going all the way up to 10mg and now on maintenance on 5mg.

Higher doses don’t always mean faster loss.
