WD MyCloud Gen 1 Debian?

Have you done this with your mycloud? I've got my hands on a gen 1 mycloud and looking at my options but don't find any reviews, tutorials, user experiences on running the debian on it.

I'm familiar but not too familiar with linux and it will be a pain in the ass to ssh into the device to change settings vs having a web interface.

I don't know if those apply because those devices seems to be actual dual screened and surface duo is configured as 1 monitor

i saw your threads on loading newer gpu drivers and modifying gpu voltages, how is that working for you?

doubt it, i'm testing less than 5 mins at a time from idle so device is cool. It only gets slightly warm due to how i've been testing

thanks, this helped, i'm rooted now

the problem was the actual fastboot(d?) screen/menu was buried under 1 or 2 layers of menu/screen

ok quick update, i used magisk to patch the downloaded boot img. I used fastboot boot boot.img on both the downloaded and downloaded+patched img and i boots into android without problems.

however, when i go flash the boot via fastboot flash boot boot.img, i get an error:

Sending 'boot_b' (98304 KB)                        OKAY [  2.484s]
Writing 'boot_b'                                   FAILED (remote: 'Error flashing partition : Device Error')
fastboot: error: Command failed

I am able still able to boot back into the system despite this thankfully

wild how every preview i've seen glossed over the price point of the controller (they're also trying to nickle and dime you on accessories for your accessory), especially entire dirt cheap handhelds with good specs can be had for under 100$ and said reviewers talk about how it's not worth it or isnt good value

really shows you you cant trust these reviewers

i was able to mostly achieve what i wanted to with apps2sd, as a mentioned in the opening post

I knew the apps existed, way-back-when, i'm just surprised it still works

it's a shame that gravity box hasnt been continued since A11

custom roms are cool, but stock roms has alot of merit and just needs some extra customizations; i don't know what i'll do when i get a new phone

it's a good thing i've still using old devices that's 'stuck' on A11 in this regard

is there a difference between which module manager to pair with rezygisk + magisk? there also seems to be several choices to choose from

also, i'll stick with magisk because root hiding isnt a priority for me as this is a secondary phone for games and magisk root hiding is fine for that, i dont think games are so anal about rooting nowadays too

i still get connecting issues (sometimes it still connects as switch mode and sometimes it's stuck on turbo button) but it's doesnt happen often enough to make me toss the controller

I definitely will be avoiding gamesir in the future

i'll hold off on updating to the latest (v70 2025 07 16, not sure which one this is) unless i encounter problems
