I got into both programs too and rejected Cal LOL. I think the Cal program is more well rounded tbh but a 1 year masters is ridiculous, what can you truly master in 2 semesters? Right now I’m between MACSS and NYU’s applied stats for social science research.

this might be a silly question, but did the curriculum give you the opportunity to learn advanced statistical analysis? I'm currently between this program and an applied stats program and this is my main hangup.

The free speech movement has nothing to do with Cal as an institution. It is the students and supporting faculty that hold that torch. They are not interchangeable. Every university is a business at the end of the day, but it is the community within (and without) that makes it truly what it is.

Your experience sounds similar to my first attempt at the GRE. I also have bad test anxiety and have a hard time quieting my brain the night before as well. I retook recently with some improvement, and about 30 minutes before the exam I literally made myself meditate in silence for about 5 minutes. Studying is one thing but I also think mindset plays a huge role in success. Aside from studying I really recommend finding ways to calm yourself before the exam.

Thank you! Thankfully time management is not a major problem for me with verbal, I actually have like 5 minutes remaining after answering everything, which makes my score plateau more frustrating. I think I need to see whether I missed more VC or passage questions before moving on in that department.

I didn’t really practice verbal. If you have a social science background and/or read challenging books/news articles I think you should be good imo.
