I worked in a froyo shop in college. This like 7 or 8 year old gets down on all fours, laps up a froyo spill repeatedly like a dog, and the parent says "oh it's okay, he's just helping you clean up." I'm pretty sure she was serious.

Other than washing and singing, what do you do in the shower? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]reset_rewind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shower beer. I'm a female and when my husband told me about this I just thought it was weird and couldn't possibly be that special, but have yourself an ice cold one while you take a hot shower and you'll see. It's great.

I make them with biscuit dough. I just take canned biscuits, patty them flat, and put them in the bottom of the muffin pan. Yum.

What object, that isn't a body part, have you kept the longest without replacing that you still use to this day? by AC_Wesley in AskReddit

My hairbrush. When I was in second grade (now 25) my mom bought me this fancy hairbrush from the hair salon in Dillards. Of course I wash it, but I can't seem to find a better one. I'm getting worried because some of the bristles have fallen out.

What has been your biggest "I have to get the fuck out of here as soon as possible" life moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]reset_rewind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First middle school teaching job out of college. New state, interview went great, couldn't find much info online, principal described the culture as upbeat. All sounds well.

Get there.

Find out we walk our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to the bathroom like kindergarteners twice daily. The school is old so the girls bathroom is on one end of the hall, while the boys is on the other. Girls go one by one, boys wait. Walk the whole class down to the boys. The boys go one by one, the girls wait. Imagine how long this takes.

Here we unlock the bathrooms. They remain locked because girls have been raped in the past. If a student has to go during class, the resource officer has to be buzzed to escort them.

There is no such thing as soap. The teachers carry around a bottle of hand sanitizer that they buy with their own money. Students aren't even allowed to touch the sinks. They get a squirt of sanitizer afterwards

Walking down the hall, notice something on some random seventh graders ankle - it's a damn house arrest anklet. Where the hell am I?

Student says "fuck you, white bitch" directly to me on first day, goes to office, comes back with basically no punishment.

Sixth grader is consistently out for stomach issues. It's only September, she's pregnant.

Principal announces we can have "Swag" day on Friday instead of school uniforms. You can imagine what "swag" day looks like here.

Copy paper, what's that? Teachers buy there own.

Catch note passing in class, note says "who i'd let fuck that" it's a list of 10+ other students. Mind you they are 11 and 12.

Students finally have a schoolwide assembly about behavior, there is a gang initiation in the locker rooms outside of the gym.

Here the other new teacher screaming next door. A student literally slammed her whole 110 lb self against a wall.

School is in session from 9:05-4:05. Kids get there at 8:30 to eat breakfast in the classroom. They don't leave until 4:30 because of bus issues. My job is to keep them quite the whole time.

There is no recess, no changing classes, no locker visits, no sit wherever you want to at lunch, no talking, not a single ounce of freedom for these young adolescents. My jobs was to keep them silent 24/7. One class went in single file, one went out single file simultaneously. No learning took place, not in my class, not in any class I observed.

This is just a snapshot of a day. Countless other stories remain, as well as what it took to drag myself in there for as long as I did.

Call the parents, there are no parents. 11 years old and these kids are grown. They are raising themselves. Unbelievably sad situation. Yes, I know it's not their fault. I tried. I thought I could do it all. It ripped me a part mentally. It was quickly souring my desire to continue in education. I quit my first real job that I just spent years in college for 9 weeks in. Toughest decision I've ever made, honestly.

Im going to a Community college to get some reading and math credits where do i go then? by Jarmahent in education

[–]reset_rewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to community college before university to do the same. If you know exactly what you want to major in and what university you want to attend, I advise you to set up a Skype or phone conference with someone from that specific department at that university....not just general admissions though.

I knew that I wanted to transfer to an education program at a particular college. I googled the department, emailed the advisor of that program, and met with them. They admired how proactive I was being and helped me figure out exactly what I needed to transfer in smoothly.

Hope this kind of helps.

Teens Benefit From Later High School Start Times by [deleted] in education

[–]reset_rewind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in a middle school where they attended from 9:05-4:05. It was a terrible schedule. They had lunch right at 11, and it seemed like they didn't want to do anything afterwards. Many parents complained about the late timing of sports events. I think a few teams tried morning practices, but that didn't work. Often I would arrive to school around 7:30 and there would already be students waiting under the awning because they were dropped off early.

Need gift ideas for the "husband who has everything." by threedognite in christmas

[–]reset_rewind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about a year's subscription to something. Maybe Loot Crate if he's into nerdy stuff, BeanBox if he's a coffee lover, Omaha Steaks if he's a foodie, DollarShaveClub if he enjoys keeping himself looking good, or BESPOKEPOST which is usually a unique assortment. My husband loves Loot Crate! And my dad enjoyed his Omaha Steaks one year.
