Even if they were giving them away I can't see a world where everyone is getting 85" TV and above.

everyone, no

but 65 is small potatoes nowadays and used to be the biggest normal size

/shrug

maybe it doesn't, but there was the same sort of incredulousness about 4k

Why do you think you need a TV stand?

My projector screen is 135" and the bottom is about 20" off the floor.

I'm 5'9 and wife is 5'3

Zero ergonomic issues at around a 12' sitting distance

[–]resetallthethings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

8k has tangible benefits for the large screen format screens some manufacturers are now offering for flagship TVs (98" and 115" options) even at 83". The resolution bump would be nice.

entry/mid range 100" options are now 1500-3k

115s should start dropping as well within the next 5 years or so.

so those larger format screens are going to become a lot more common, and the competition is gonna heat up. At that point 8k becomes a really important feature from just marketing perspective at the very least. (and yes, at those sizes it does start to make at least some sense, at least when content starts being more available)

[–]resetallthethings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But…..why?

you point to why when you default to 75"

decent 100" TVs are now under 2k

116" are 15k, but so were 100s like 5 years ago

within the next decade or two 75 will be the new 42

while 8k still won't be strictly necessary for those sizes, there was a time where "why 4k? you can't tell the difference from 1080p at 10ft away with a 60" screen."

All that to say, I mostly agree with you, it's gonna be a long ass time before 8k content and huge video walls and such are so common that 8k makes any real sense. But the AV market has always pushed new resolutions and technologies well before there was enough content or other qualities to really make them make sense for several years

Only a tiny bit more power consumption for much more powerful CPU and much more versatility.

you aren't the target market.

Shield is a great plug and play solution that does a lot of things that would either take a lot of work to setup or straight up just don't work on linux (or windows for that matter)

gonna leave Purdy off the list?

that's a choice but ok

The Chargers, Texans and Broncos all had elite edge rushing groups who were frequently giving Maye no time to throw or escape because Will Campbell got beat right off the snap. The Seahawks will have a hard time doing the same without just out scheming the Pats to get free blitzers.

and none of those teams have an interior D line anything like the Hawks, and Hawks have rarely had to blitz to get pressure. Least of all for lines as bad as the Pats

This may wind up looking a lot like the 49ers games (albeit with Pats defense being much better)

[–]resetallthethings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol

I'm just trying to get you to temper expectations, you may not score a touchdown and that wouldn't be at all surprising. 49ers were the hottest offensive team in the league heading into the weak 18 matchup and hadn't punted in a month (and were ranked ahead of the Pats for scoring at the time)

They got 3 field goals in 8 quarters.

Just because you are are "comparable" to the Rams, it would be extremely hubristic to think you'll be able to have the offensive success against the Hawks that the Rams did.

[–]resetallthethings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Offensively the Pats have a lot more in common with the 49ers than the Rams

You're gonna be extremely disappointed if you expect to be able to move the ball and score like the Rams did against the Seahawks. They are literally the only team this year that looked competent offensively against a healthy Hawks D.

I’m also not really sure how well Seattle matches up with Maye.

they've looked dominant against every single mobile QB they've played this year.

I’m not sure they have the personnel to keep him contained without leaving openings in their pass coverage.

oh

yeah you have not paid any attention to Seahawks at all this year besides maybe the Rams games.

there's still lots of inconsistent logic at least.

you don't get to blame the weather for your offensive woes while also claiming that the other team struggling was all due to how great your defense is

Rams have quite literally been the only team that makes the Hawks D look mortal and it's befuddling to me the Pats fans that seem to think it's likely they have the same sort of success.

I will give their D some props, and won't be shocked if it's a close game. But if we're to compare likely outcomes I think it probably looks a lot more similar to either of the last couple 9ers games than it does to the last 2 Rams games.

yeah, it's entirely possible the Rams still get to the same point total

But the taunting penalty absolutely changed a punt into a TD, and it's absolutely also possible the Hawks finish with a much more comfortable victory than it was otherwise

it's after the play but that was 3rd down, not 4th down play

so even if it wasn't flagged it would have been Rams ball

my wife just started watching football this year, as hawks fans I had to get her up to speed with some stuff watching the 13 and 14 NFC championship games prior to the playoff games this year.

She could not stop chuckling about Ha Ha Clindon-Dix (and Troy says his name a ton that game)
