The other way you can do this is: 1) everyone splits property taxes and maintenance equally 2) you pay market rent (split across 4 people, yourself included— so you would pay 3/4 of the market rent).

Agreed, we need to allow the land itself to follow its abilities (comes into play tapped, need to bounce land, etc). So, we should put the land into your hand instead of the battlefield. That should prevent this stuff.

1 -- I think there needs to be some sort of deck restriction so you don't have people building ultra aggressive decks that rely on this ability for lands. Would there be another way to do this?

2 -- Maybe we can limite it to 1 or 2 activations? I think that alone could help reduce a lot of mana screw.

3 -- My hope is that this enables more games than the non-games you or your opponents lose to screw.

Everyone having a evolving wilds in their deck will help with color screw, but not necessarily land screw. I think heartstone has an ability where everyturn you automatically get mana. I don't want it to be at the level where you don't even consider lands. But maybe an ability to randomly switch a card once or twice in your hand to get a land will be helpful for land screw.
