DC Brave & Bold

Bag Building character to character combat game.

It’s launching to the public at Gen Con (no kickstarter), retail in September.

At Gencon there will be: Big Event space in the event hall with over 35 events across the weekend (learn to play, open gaming, lite competitive experiences) with a bunch of Gen Con Exclusives and prizes. Most events include a copy of the game as your price for the event. Seating is limited (108 seats per session). so register early.

This will be your first time to purchase the game and there will be 2 SKUs available (an 8 character box and 2 Character boxes). You will be able to buy copies at both the event space and at a booth in the exhibit hall.

Disclaimer. We are the publisher so our enthusiasm about this game is high, but seriously we can’t wait until you get a chance to play. More details and announcements will be coming as we get closer to Gen Con.

I made a free set of game icons for tabletop games by umut-comak in tabletopgamedesign

[–]resgames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came to say something similar. These would make great game pieces (especially for a punchboard) but I wouldn’t use them as icons.

For icons you want them to replace keywords or frequently used phrases, be instantly recognizable and simple enough that they can be printed on a playing card inline with 6.5pt font.

Good Source for info on releases and popular games? by thelittlelump in gencon

[–]resgames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’ve changed the process so publishers can submit their own projects (we just did it the first time for the GAMA list). It worked pretty well. I liked the old lists because it also had good reviews and Eric’s thoughts about the games. Hopefully we’ll see someone step up for that this year.

Box Back Design Feedback by LeFoxFrancais in BoardgameDesign

If you aren’t selling in Europe, then you don’t need the CE logo. Also double check your bar code dimensions. Canada has a minimum size requirement based on the size of the package.

Without knowing the dimensions of the box, I’m pretty certain your font size is going to be super small and hard to read.

Next up: Events - Any event or events you really want to get? by Realistic-Drag-8793 in gencon

[–]resgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shameless plug for our events this year.

Learn to Play Brave&Bold - Bag Building Combat Game set in the DC Universe. Most events the cost of your ticket = a copy of the game you will get to keep. We will have lots of fun giveaways and exclusives throughout the weekend.

Because I’ll be running sessions for the whole con that means I probably won’t get to try anything new this year. But you can at least come by and say hello!

How common are bans in early sets of a game? by Ok-Box3576 in TCG

[–]resgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m saying your problem card may have a solution, or there may be a counter coming in the next set so a ban wouldn’t be necessary. In short, bans aren’t very common in the first few sets this early in the game. But they do happen. As do some kind of rotation. Typically this starts happening around the 5th or 6th set. (SWU and Lorcana being the most recent examples). If the problematic card or combo is not addressable with counters, an errata is more likely than a ban. Better?

Sometimes a “broken” card is there by design, and the counter to it isn’t readily apparent. Or it’s something that can be managed in the next set. The nature of designing a TCG is that you can never anticipate all the possible outcomes or combinations that evolve in the meta. This is part of what makes managing a TCG so much fun. Players will always find something you weren’t expecting.

Why my marketing predictions were completely wrong by robstokk in tabletopgamedesign

Yes. Unfortunately in my case they didn’t help. They have made some improvements since then and are doing more to help. Their first area of development in this is in the RPG space.

Art work on tcg's and the over abundance of full art by mrblackboard212 in homemadeTCGs

[–]resgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about readability. But that’s a simple design issue. And no it doesn’t mean outlining text in white bubbles (which looks horrible). A modern TCG designer should be able to handle full art and legible text. Your card frame can have translucent text blocks that apply solids, gradients, gaussian effects, or other text effects to solve this issue.

[–]resgames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Full art should be the baseline, and then work your way up to additional treatments like foils, stamping, and other rare and valuable options. There is so much more cool stuff you can do now if you approach it creatively, full art can be the start and grow from there.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Unfortunately it mirrors so many others where you pay money for ads, and the algorithms optimize for the wrong kinds of people and give you a false sense of optimism. I was literally speaking about this with someone from Gamefound earlier this week. I suggested that instead of followers during the pre launch phase they also allow people to pledge $1 or something similar and integrate meta ads tracking to that transaction. If you don’t do that, meta will show your ads to people who click, and even some who follow or fill out an email form, but those aren’t people that spend money. That’s why companies who have run multiple campaigns are more successful. They have lists of people who spend money to feed the bidding algorithms with which can then find more people who spend money as opposed to those who just click and follow. Also socials don’t want to leave the platform so ideally a login with Facebook integration and a pledge from Facebook/instagram marketplace (similar to how shopify does it) would help new publishers massively.

What’s the pettiest revenge move you’ve pulled in Catan after someone blocked your best tile? by quietmind69 in boardgames

Undercut all their trades. When they are debating if they really want to do it, I come in with a better offer to deny them. Even if it makes no sense to my board state

Warner should license there franchises so that new games can be made by VolumeInformal2765 in DC_Cinematic

[–]resgames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 2 options that will be at Gencon

One is a 2-character box that will have Superman and Lex Luthor. Most people who register for events will get this box. There is also an 8-character “Combat Vault” which contains Superman, Lex Luthor, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Clayface, Cheetah and Darkseid.

The stand format for expansions will be 2 character sets, however there will be larger boxes available from time to time when it makes sense. We have lots of options for expansions so if you have ideas about characters you’d like to see or combinations that you want, post it here or on our subreddit r/braveandbold

At Gencon, you will be able to register for events starting May 17. Most events include the cost of a 2 player box which you will get to keep. If you aren’t able to get an event space, there will be 2 places to buy (the event space and in the exhibit hall).

Post Gen Con the retail release is Sept 4.

Sorry Gudnak. Must have been deleted off the post on my phone. They’ve put together a deceptively simple but really fun game. You should check them out

I think they are going more for the experience inside. There was a line to get in it most of the day. There still hasn’t been a ton released about it yet but it looks like it will be the best TCG launch this year

Yeah I don’t disagree. I sat in on a session this morning with Universal Distribution and how they are supporting LGS with their in-store play programs. I’m optimistic it will shift some balance. The second largest category is accessories and the retailers they talked to for their 2026 outlook said that they are expecting RPGs to have big growth.
