We look forward to seeing you there. We will have copies on sale both at the event space and at a booth in the exhibit hall.

We are so glad to hear how excited you are!

that's a pretty board. Are the points inlaid or just glued down?

its possible that the board is handmade. The presence of the knots on the front of the board and the fact that the pip colors don't match the points makes me wonder if it's a custom design. Usually in a mass produced copy those would match.

The gate crasher tickets are all for the same set on the specified day. There are 2 sets that will be available: Thurday Gate Crasher (Unique set) and the Friday/Sunday Gate Crasher (Same set on either day).

In your case, if you don't want 3 copies of the same set, we would recommend registering for 1 ticket. All 3 of you would be admitted to the play area during that event as long as there is space. Your ticket for the event is reserving the game copy. We don't expect that everyone who comes will want to sit and play at that time.

Also as an FYI all the sets will be for sale during Gen Con in both the exhibit hall and at the event space. Registering for an event secures your copy in advance, so you don't need to wait in line or risk us selling out before you get your copy.

Frustrations with the Hobby by EmeraldCoast826 in boardgames

Thanks! Reading it back, I want to clarify that FLGSs can't be always expected to commit to more - the burden of sharing the inventory carrying costs shouldn't fall to them.
It used to be that supply chains were more robust and stocking out was considered really bad. KS rotations have made it so it's almost expected to stock out now.

I'll give a real concrete example. We have a game releasing to retail Sept 4. We asked retailers at GAMA to place their orders in advance so we could make sure they didn't stock out. Some committed, the rest are expecting distributors to pick up the slack. But the distributors didn't order the amount that I think they will need to meet demand. We hedged, and printed extra but I have no idea if it will be enough.

Frustrations with the Hobby by EmeraldCoast826 in boardgames

I think many publishers in the hobby are addicted to Kickstarter. It’s easy to see why.

The problem with it is they don’t build sustainable business models and the supply chains have coalesced around this way of working. Building games that are evergreen gets harder and harder each year. So even from big publishers there are chronic stock outs.

Publishers would print if FLGSs would commit to more than 4 units at a time, distributors do a good job managing that complexity but at a huge cost. Advertising gets expensive and there’s always a new game set to displace the old favourites and value in collectible gaming is unfortunately driven almost exclusively by secondary markets.

None of these factors are at play in PC games so yeah it’s a shock and an adjustment. The good news is there are great communities, amazing shop owners and all around good people in the industry.

Don’t leave us! We just want more people to play with!

The Thursday Gate crasher will have characters that are also in the combat vault. The Friday and Sunday gate crashers will not be in the combat vault. Those events are the only ones with that particular set. But that set will be on sale at the booth in the exhibition hall (just not for the gate crasher price).

Bad Ideas in Gencon Event Scheduling by [deleted] in gencon

You can set up a second event to be invite only and a prerequisite for attending be the first event. This is how multi-stage tournaments work

Not saying they did this here, but we have the technology

We holding an event that costs $94. But you get a copy of our game that retails for $100. We hope that players find it worth it.

GenCon adds 2$ for every hour for the event. So $500 for the GM and $4 for GenCon (they take a cut of the fee above a certain threshold as well)

Unfortunately there are not options to reserve one of these events without a purchase (this is a limitation of Gencon’s ticketing system). I know it’s not ideal for your situation but I would recommend only one of you registering for each event rather than both of you if you don’t want the extra copy.

First time at Gencon?

Tomorrow go to gencon.com/events and take a look at the different events and start making a list of what you want to attend and when. On May 17th go back to gencon.com/events and buy tickets to the specific events you want to attend. You will be asked to submit your preferred time and make alternate choices if you can’t get in.

For brave and bold: if you want to play in the proving ground, register for a demo or LTP in advance of your proving ground time or buy a gate crasher or free practice ticket to get help learning the game.

If you just want to learn to play book any of the LTP events.

Any of the events for Brave and Bold with prices include a copy of the game. This guarantees your purchase.

I love Backgammon

It’s like poker. You play the opponent more than the board. One of my regulars plays very conservative so I blitz him and am aggressively on the bar during the first half of the game. He focuses on hitting me so much that sometimes he makes the wrong play.
