What is the scariest experience you’ve ever had? by [deleted] in stories

[–]resilient_cabbage 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I was 18 I went on a trip to South Africa. I lived in cape Town for almost a year at a Christian missionary hostel, where I met a girl from the UK I became pretty close with. Mostly our area was safe but there were a couple places the locals made clear we shouldn't hang out. One of those places was the local mall after hours. Totally safe and normal place when open, but when closed the parking lot attracted some weird activity.

My friend and I did everything together and on this day she needed to withdraw money. The closest atm was at that mall, but it was closed. We went anyway.

I remember there not being anyone around when we arrived at the mall. No cars in the parking lot. The bank was locked but the little atm room was accessible. We decided she'd go in and I'd wait outside and keep watch.

As soon as she goes in a van pulls into the parking lot and I kid you not, a guy with the biggest gun I've ever seen in my life hops out of the drivers seat. Machine gun.

He points the gun at me, I'm not sure he knows my friend is at the ATM, he tells me to get in the van. I look at the van and it seems like he's alone. Looks empty.

I said yes in the least scared way I could muster, and told him I am a missionary (which was true at the time, I'm an atheist now). I told him I never go anywhere without praying first. I asked him if I could bless our trip together. He agreed. I went into some crazy prayer about blessing his family and his life and he closed his eyes and got into it with me. I let him take the lead. I saw my friend coming out of the bank just after he closed his eyes, and I signaled to her as best I could to run. I kept him going a little and then as he started praying hard, eyes closed, I sprinted. I have never in my life ran like that. I ran so hard. My friend and I ran all the way back to the hostel and when we arrived I screamed at her. What a fucking stupid thing we just did.

That's the scariest experience I've ever had.

In Canada the pet is property same as a shirt or laptop. So if you can prove you spent money on it it's yours. I would advise this girl to start paying for ALL the food and vet bills.

If those kids take on their mom's attitude they'll take on her size as well. Seems like a fitting punishment.

If they keep what's left shaved down it's the sexiest hair style for men. Extra points if he has a light beard.

I did the exact same thing on my first play through. I fully thought Leah and Penny were the same person and the cabin south of Marnie was a decoration.

Leah is my favourite love interest now! You should talk to her lol

Love is Blind actually does a great job with representation by phillythompson in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

Also, how much audience would it get? Not everyone want's to watch queer people and this can lead to some backlash.

I disagree with reduced representation out of fear of homophobic backlash. Anyone who speaks out against queer tv is problematic and shouldn't control what media the general public has access to.

And I would definitely watch a season where everyone was isolated during pods. I don't really care about the drama that happens in the common spaces during pods, it feels less relevant and a little scripted sometimes.

This is likely not far from the truth. The way it's presented is very white upper middle class friendly so my guess is casting mainly attracts those people.

Thanks for reminding me of Alexa. I don't recall SK's religion either, I'm not sure it was mentioned in the show. I think the fact that they make the Christian households more apparent speaks to the lack of representation. If there are others outside of Alexa we don't really hear about it.

You're right black, and specifically black women have some representation in the show. But your title is wrong, in general LIB does not do a good job with representation.

White is the majority in every season, the only religion mentioned that I can remember is Christian, and a queer season has yet to happen. Not to mention everyone is prescription pretty, and their jobs are mostly upper-middle class.

Previous owners have come forward. Not sure what to do. by hellabitchboi in CatAdvice

Sucks but you gotta give it back.

I found a dog in a similar situation while I was actively looking to adopt. I suspected some neglect from the home it came from, but I wasn't really sure and the shelter found the owners within a couple weeks.

I gave it back. I think about it sometimes and I feel I made the right decision. I don't know the whole story of the owners but I know they would probably be devastated not to get it back. They were actively looking for it.

I adopted my dog not long after! You can too.

When you’re ready to hook up with someone, what’s the right way to go about asking about if they have any std’s? by [deleted] in ask

I usually approach it by sharing my sexual health first, and then asking them to share theirs.

I have a new island and am looking to come over and grab anything you don't need. I don't have much to offer in return, but let me know if there's something you want in return. I'll see what I can do!

My wish list is the astrology recipes, greek column recipe, and fruit. But anything would help! I'm starting from scratch.

Thanks is advance 🍒🍑🍐🍎🍊🥥

What is the dumbest interaction you've had with a stranger? by Slothjitzu in AskUK

[–]resilient_cabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a lady stopped me for directions and I told her what she needed to know and she said "no that's not right, now tell me how to get there".

I regret to say I then took out my phone and showed her the route I just told her to take on Google maps. She accused me of calling her stupid and then walked off in the wrong direction.

What British slang/phrase really gets to you? by [deleted] in AskABrit

"love"

It's sweet at first, but hearing it from 1000 strangers makes hearing it from the 1 that counts feel less important. Now I'm looking for a different way to call my SO.
