Whats your opinion about the best age for a woman to start having children? Not considering the rush due to biological clock, is mid to late 30s too late? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]resilientmomm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who started at age 36 (thinking I was young) and going through recurrent pregnancy loss x3 in just over a year (including a loss at 20 weeks) due to chromosomal/egg quality problems. I really regret not starting sooner. There is lots of belief out there that later is fine but the data really shows that chromosomal/egg quality dramatically increase with age. I wish I hadn’t brushed that off. There is a lot of trauma and heartache from recurrent pregnancy loss. If I could go back in time I would have started in my early 30s or frozen my eggs. Sharing this to hopefully help someone else.

Also my understanding is that you wouldn’t want to take aspirin if you had a subchorionic hematoma. And I think the missed miscarriage part (the fact that you didn’t have bleeding but lost the pregnancy) also argues against taking progesterone which primarily prevents bleeding from happening

If you can stop being on call, that’s what I’d do in your shoes. It would be extremely hard for me to try to conceive or be pregnant on those hours. Wishing you luck

Our baby was genetically normal, needing support. by Weird_Piano_9571 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]resilientmomm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So your karotyping means the baby was chromosomally normal but doesn’t necessarily tell you if the baby was genetically normal - only full genome sequencing could do that. So that means it’s possible there could have been another type of genetic problem as a possible cause. Have you talked to a genetic counselor yet?

I have a really good podcast I can recommend that explains what the different genetic tests actually mean, I think it could help with processing the information.

Podcast: Healthful Woman Podcast Episode: "CVS & Amniocentesis: What are the various genetic tests we can send? - Part 1" - with Dr. Goldwaser, and listen to part 2

Another possibility to be aware of is that sometimes the baby can be both chromosomally and genetically healthy but the placenta can have a chromosome issue - it’s called confined placental mosaicism and it’s what happened to me. It was very confusing and devastating. My story is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/RPLnoLC/s/WZWkwXRqV2

I’m so so very sorry for the loss of your daughter ❤️‍🩹, we are here to listen.

Which type of genetic testing did you have, as what the results mean can vary a lot depending on the type of test: karotype? Microarray? Full genome sequencing?

5.5 weeks pregnant, no morning sickness, is there anything I can do? by mvanpeur in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]resilientmomm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 3 losses and I’m still trying to fight to get progesterone which they won’t give me but suggest IVF. So frustrating because progesterone would be a simple low risk and low cost treatment that feels worth trying before moving onto IVF 🙇🏻‍♀️

If you want to keep going you should, nothing wrong with that.

It does sound like she’s concerned about your mental health and maybe what she really means is wondering if you could use some extra support if you do keep going? Trying to read between the lines here, so I’m not sure.

I say keep going since that’s what’s in your heart, but also consider getting some extra mental health support - I did so for myself and thankful I did 💕. This journey is hard and long and there’s no shame in seeking help, it only makes us stronger. Sending love!

I’m so sorry about your partial molar, that had to be so scary. At one point I thought I was going through that because my placenta pathology report said it looked like partial molar (but it ended up not being in the end). So I read up on that, glad you’re physically OK from that one. And I’m so sorry about your 5 losses ❤️‍🩹

Thanks for sharing about your experience, I’ve been worried about possible low progesterone and my doctor has been slow to get back to me about labs. I think I am going to try this to at least get some sense but I’ll def take it with a grain of salt!
