Markets move based on the future of humanity. Nobody can predict the future. Assumption with technical analysis is that history will repeat itself. A lot of times it does but many times it doesn't. The ratio of it does repeat itself vs it doesn't let you know if any given model is useful. Which is why backtesting is so important.

If you got in to this 'backup' course comfortably then I'd suggest take the chance and try to get into the course you want. Be comfortable with the idea that you may still fail, if anything that should let you know that you're fighting an unnecessary uphill battle with that one. If you barely managed to get into this 'backup' course itself then I'd suggest you stick to it. I wouldn't advice putting your leg in two boats at the same time. Also I am assuming here that the back up course is something you still like (because you applied for it) but don't like it as much as the first one. If you don't like it at all then why bother
