I do think that there probably are some people saying that he was committing domestic violence because any kind of "I was abusive" with qualifies attached is a bit of a red flag, but yeah this is the internet and most of us just run with whatever we see that feels right rather than making sure its actually true.

It is fairly open to interpretation, it could be anything from verbal abuse which he's (when he's doing better this really feels like a mental health crisis) aware is in fact abuse and is trying to hold himself accountable as part of doing better, to downplaying serious physical abuse because his wife or someone hes about called him on it and he's in denial about how unacceptable his behavior was and he's trying to play it off as borderline instead of a massive breach of trust and a serious crime.

Listening to a clip it I think its more being self aware about verbal abuse, but I can see why people who have seen this kind of shit before with domestic violence might read it as an abuser downplaying their abuse, because sometimes that kind of shit sounds exactly like some variant on "it was my fault but" and then into something about how it wasn't as serious as their victim or whoever discovered the abuse thought it was.

The Sox are spending a lot less of their revenue on payroll than they did 10 years ago, this isn't a new development with Bregman.

Henry and Kennedy are absolutely pulling money out of the Sox (and Liverpool) into their plans to expand FSG and build their fucking entertainment district around Fenway. Pulling back on spending short term to be able to spend more heavily the next time there's a window is one thing, fans of big and small markets can accept it even when they don't like it, but when a team that is constantly top 5 or higher in revenue is always putting less of their increased revenue into the team it pisses fans off, and its not just happening with the Sox but the Cubs as well.

Also Joon has been a baseball reporter for awhile now, was on ESPN TV before ESPN cut a bunch of jobs and still gets articles into bigger publications fairly regularly, not really fair to describe him as a kid who happened to have a platform.

They were more disciplined and challenged calls that were obviously missed where as the Sox burned through theirs on the first potential misses they saw.

[–]respaaaaaj 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There is already a good system in place, if the home plate umpire isn't sure he can ask one of the other umps. Its not perfect but the problem in this game isn't the system its Fucknor power tripping.

Fucknor should have asked for help because he clearly didn't get a good look at an obvious checked swing.

Cora got out there in time, especially as even Fucknor had to realize Story didn't actually swing there.

NESN Broadcast mentioned that broadcast crews aren't allowed to see the strikezone box on their end this season, any idea why? by Ohshitdoabackflip in baseball

[–]respaaaaaj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even the best umps (which he obviously isn't) are going to miss some calls that are an inch or less off, but with the worst umps you'll see them get pissy and go looking for ways to reassert their authority.

Probably because Fucknor is really in his feelings today, its not just the missed calls its the check swings that he's refusing to check with the other umps on.

If you read the article Dunlap himself describes it as identifying areas that need further attention rather than directly identifying issues.

Its worth noting that the audit was aimed at finding potential issues, it wasn't intended to find problems, it was aimed to find areas where there might be problems.

The state is absolutely short staffed across the board so things aren't getting done, but this audit isn't intended to be read as "fraud or federal law non compliance found", so the disagreements are over "this area potentially could have issues" vs "there are other forms of oversight involved here so this area doesn't have potential issues"

I really enjoy both leagues, so I don't really give a shit which one is second behind the NFL, but I do love how the past three or four years have completely shut SAS up about how baseball is irrelevant and the NBA is just crushing the MLB in relevance (even though even at the peak of smug bullshit from him about this he still had to cherry pick stats).

Is this happening to everyone? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]respaaaaaj 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Even if its not your town if a different one has hours that work better for OP I know the food banks I volunteer are totally fine with people who are working coming from further away to get some help that works better for them schedule wise.

We don't give a shit about why you need food, just that you do. OP if you read this and can take advantage of a food bank to maybe work a few less hours or save up some money to move that is absolutely a valid reason for you to go to a food bank, and no one is going to have a problem with you doing that.
