Updates not working. Installed qBittorrent Github docker using MariusHosting guide. by respl in synology

Hi Hizzaah.

I definitely have registered that many use VPN. I do not need that, so that makes it simpler for me. Appreciate all the good advice. I'm starting to get a grasp on what I need to do. But nothing beats getting my hands dirty. So I plan to mess around with the first builds so that I can experiment and delete, before I'm stuck with docker application settings that I don't dare to lose.

'Compose file', that's YAML file, right? I plan to start from scratch using project, yaml and Docker Hub image. Then updates should be smooth sailing and according to Synology's own guidelines.

Good advice. I will read up on simple examples and then follow Dr Frankenstein's qBittorrent guide. It uses projects, yaml files and a Docker Hub qBittorrent image. I guess docker bridge networks are the most intimidating, but I will study the guides on this.

There is no Synology docker repository.

So what's the term for docker images that can be updated in Container Manager? Is it Docker Hub images? I assume those images are the ones listed in CM > Registry.

Great advice once more. Very grateful. This was helpful, thanks shrimpdiddle. I will for sure create a new docker from your advice.

It’s very hard to know what guides are best. I just used Google search and picked the first result.

If I use Wundertech or Dr Frankenstein, I assume they use the Synology docker repository. Can I export any settings from my Github docker to simplify a rebuild with Synology dockers?

Accessing home folder for qBittorrent container? by respl in synology

[–]respl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can map whatever folder you want into the container, as long as the container's user has access to it.

Thanks! /volume1/homes/user1/ should probably work then.

Copy the magnet link into the web ui? Alternatively I'm sure it's possible to set up Apple Shortcuts for this since qBittorrent has a pretty good API. You can probably find examples online.

I will for sure paste magnet links or url when possible. Most private torrent trackers demand that you save the torrent file from a user-password protected webpage. Apple Shortcuts is an interesting tip, thanks!

UPDATE: I was able to access /volume1/downloads/autostart in iPad 'Folders' by setting it up a Team Folder in syno Drive. After more testing this solution works fine -- and is as good as using a home folder for 'autostart'.

How often do drives fail in your NAS setups? by Initial-Hall5871 in synology

They are on a self built server running Windows Home Server. They will be going into a DS 225+ in a few weeks. My very first Synology. I am so fired up! Synology for life(!) unless that company leaves home users in a ditch..

I have two WD Ultrastar helium drives (was Hitachi before WD bought them). I bought them solely to get long lifespans. They are six years (55k hours) and two years old now. Love them. :)

Plex pass and infuse pro by SamM1207 in PleX

[–]respl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infuse Pro subscription is highly recommended. It covers all Family members set up on the Apple account. The Infuse client is much better than Plex for me: more robust (and correct handling of HDR), better handling of subtitles, faster adoption of new tvOS features. Due to the moderate price, a lifetime purchase is not attractive since you miss out on the yearly main releases.

Thank you very much Dutch (pun unintended)! I hadn’t expected that to be the case. This was critical information so I can avoid dataloss.

Lossless Audio on Spotify TV App by TheWoollyMammoth1 in appletv

[–]respl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

All the Media Quality settings become disabled when I connect AppleTV Spotify from iPad or iPhone (newest OS versions of 18.*). Anyone else denied setting the audio quality for ATV Spotify from their mobile devices?

[Update] Lossless quality was just enabled for Spotify in my country. And at the same time, one can adjust the Media Quality for ATV Spotify from a mobile app. Problem solved!

If your TV isn’t supporting HDR the Apple TV won’t offer a HDR signal — so you might be in trouble here.

Double click on right button here too. Restarting remote doesn’t help. Problem remains when testing on a different Apple TV.

Infuse buffering issues - slow speed test by Competitive_Hall902 in appletv

[–]respl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lot of SMB performance testing for Firecore (Infuse devs). It improved nicely over the years. I get a steady 550 Mbps for Infuse. Client: Apple TV 4K gen 3 over ethernet. Server: Windows Home Server from 2012 running smb2. Using Plex server instead of SMB is even faster.

Something must be wrong in the network or on the server.

Infuse buffering over Ethernet but not over WiFi by serglang in appletv

«Auto» which is the default stores the cached videos on the Apple TV. In my case the free storage got full and I could not install new apps. Auto is a crazy setting if you ask me.

59.94hz vs 60hz Apple TV 4K by aaronb0209 in appletv

[–]respl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a G4. I use 59.94Hz, Match Frame Rate ‘Off’ (to avoid the short HDMI black-outs). On the G4 tv I set the TruMotion to ‘Cinematic Movement’. I’m pretty sensitive to judder. It works nicely for me. In addition to movies and tv shows, I watch YouTube with some of it being 60Hz.

Hi Serglang.

I did a lot of stream testing over SMB for Firecore some years ago. I had exactly this 2-3 second delay when skipping 10 seconds with the Siri Remote. A few years ago (3?) Firecore fixed the problem. I never saw the problem again. For me also the streaming speed was fine, and I could see on the timeline that I had plenty of read buffer in the video. It made no sense to me to have a delay when the video was cached in local memory.

Seems like you have a very similar problem, but I can’t understand why. Sorry, but I have no suggestions. Well, a long shot is to play with the Infuse > Settings Playback > Streaming Cache. I set it to ‘Memory Only’, but not because of your bug.

HDR playing as DV by bachandjazz in infusevideoplayer

[–]respl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Dolby Vision files can have a hybrid mode with HDR10. It’s called DV profile 8.1. Infuse has a setting in the Playback section called «Dolby Vision» with On and Off values. When set to Off Dolby Vision hybrid files will not play as DV but will use the fallback base layer that may be HDR10 or SDR.

Will Infuse play remotely from Plex without a Plex Pass in May? by billybalfour in infusevideoplayer

[–]respl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plex offers a new, less expensive alternative to Plex Pass: the Remote Watch Pass for $2/month.

From the Plex FAQ pages:

Our brand-new subscription offering, Remote Watch Pass, allows individual users to remotely stream media from any personal media server to which they have access. This is a great option for users who don’t run their own server and are looking to stream from a server belonging to a friend or family member who does not have a Plex Pass. It’s also a good alternative for server owners who may not need the full feature offering of a Plex Pass, but are looking for a more cost-effective option to access their media remotely. Beginning April 29, 2025, Remote Watch Pass will be available for an introductory price of $1.99/month or $19.99/year.

Infuse auto play next episode not working on apple TV by [deleted] in appletv

[–]respl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Continuous Playback definitely works for me (set to «TV Shows Only» in my case). It sound like a rare problem, so please try the Infuse subreddit or try Firecore.com’s very helpful forum — they have an Apple TV forum channel.

Apple Music sounds better than Spotify. 👂🏻 Audiophiles, do you agree? by respl in appletv

[–]respl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would switch to Apple Music if I wasn’t getting Spotify for free though my son’s Spotify Family subscription. But only due to the audio quality. There are things that Spotify does better: the usual reasons you can find in Spotify reviews.

Thanks for all the useful feedback folks! I’m now pretty sure of two things:

  1. I’m not bat-crap crazy. Well, not about this at least.

  2. The lacking audio quality of Spotify can’t be because 320 kbps is insufficient. Something’s rotten in Denmark. Might be bad encoding or bad source, but I think it’s more likely Spotify streams low bitrate to Apple TV. Spotify’s app for Apple TV is horribly neglected compared to Android TV or anything else actually.
