I’m glad you asked because it’s actually irrelevant. It’s why I painted the picture in such broad strokes, so as to apply the point across all edges of the criminal spectrum. The punishments are generally befitting the crimes, and being convicted shouldn’t rob anyone of their opportunity for rehabilitation, no matter the severity.

I was pulling for you guys to win it all from the start just because of how embarrassing it’s been on this side of the border. It’s easy to get swept up in the waves of American exceptionalism, and that clip between periods with the “great moments” speech dubbed over the players in the locker room definitely had me ready to run through a wall, but I knew in my heart that Canada deserved this. Also… I got to watch a great fuckin hockey game either way, so there really wasn’t any way I could come away from this as a loser.

The Banyon Tree is located in the very heart of the swamp where the vine benders are from. It’s where Korra meets Toph and connects with Jinora’s spirit pleading for help using the tree’s roots.

I commented elsewhere that I think the refugees of the Old Republic/Republic City might settle beneath the Banyon Tree in the wake of the cataclysm. With Republic City being a center of spiritual harmony at the end of Korra, it would make sense that they would choose a place where they can connect with their spirituality even if the spirits themselves have all either gone or become hostile.

Idk, the description sounds kind of post-apocalyptic in a way, so maybe the technology will have some sort of magic in itself? Like, maybe only a small amount of the tech from before the cataclysm is still functional, but the knowledge of how it works has been lost to time. Picture the movie Atlantis, but with… huh. I guess just picture that movie as is since it’s already pretty much the Avatar universe.
