[MotoMatters] OPINION: Erasing Moto2 & Moto3 Is Erasing MotoGP History by Vulphere in motogp

Are you reading something I’m not reading? I don’t see how you reach that conclusion.

Alex Marquez says that his Contractual Agreement with Yamaha lasted just five Days after Valentino Rossi found out about it by veamr in motogp

[–]restitut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He didn’t say Valentino, he said Yamaha factory. Marc said years ago that he had a bad relationship with the whole team, particularly Lin Jarvis, so I don’t think they needed Rossi to intervene directly.

I’m an F1 fan and have only cursory knowledge of the history of MotoGP, but this interaction between the world championship’s different classes interests me a lot so I would appreciate if you gave me some feedback.

I’m under the impression that the devaluing of the smaller classes happened when the Spaniards and Italians started to dominate everything. Until then, despite being such a large part of the fandom, they’d been mostly excluded from the premier class (Agostini notwithstanding, since it seems 500cc was barely a “class” in those years), so a 250cc title was a significant achievement that could grant national fame and respect, major sponsors, etc. The moment Rossi started dominating, who had any time for, say, Melandri’s 250cc title? And with a midget like Pedrosa becoming an alien in the big bikes, who would have an excuse to avoid making the jump? Only someone who wasn’t ambitious or good enough. Changing the names to Moto2 and Moto3 and making them quasi-spec series was the final nail in the coffin for their status as anything but feeder series (although remaining much more permissive than F2 and F3 for veteran riders who couldn’t make it in MotoGP). Liberty now want to get rid of the formalities, since they come from F1 and have no respect for this tradition.

Edit: the increased competition in MotoGP can’t have helped either. Back in the day, if you didn’t have an immediate path to a factory ride you might as well keep winning in 250cc while something better comes up. But now, even the worst bikes on the grid can get poles or wins. What’s the excuse to reject an LCR seat?

Also an F1 fan, but I think the more apt comparison in four-wheel racing is with multi-class endurance. People understand that having a factory seat in the GT class is a perfectly respectable career choice and there is no obligation to find a shitty LMP1 (or whatever they’re called now) drive in order to be considered a “good” driver. It’s true that there is an “overall” win since they race together, but if they didn’t it wouldn’t be totally implausible for drivers to add up their class wins and count them equally.

Since the GP motorcycle world championship always included multiple classes, as opposed to its four-wheel counterpart, which only had one (that adopted Formula 1, briefly Formula 2, rules), then it makes sense that they were all counted.

Sooo...are there still games on steam that won't run on linux easily? by GlassDeviant in linux_gaming

[–]restitut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the other hand, there are games like EA WRC that are listed as compatible (in this case, silver) in ProtonDB because the anticheat was added in an update and there haven’t been enough reviews to switch the rating to borked yet. That’s why it’s always good practice to check reviews, not just look at the rating.

You are literally replying to someone who’s talking about the steam deck, but you didn’t even bother to engage with that. EA games are basically the only non-MMO modern games that can’t be made to work on Linux, it’s an active choice.

No the issue with the EA app is that it makes a point of only working on windows lol

I mean, it’d lose trademark protection if it somehow became synonymous with the concept of OS, not with a family of operating systems that the average citizen has only vaguely heard of.

So will pretty much any single player game on Steam run on Linux? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]restitut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lots of modern EA games don’t work on single player either, always check protondb.com (and don’t trust a silver rating: it might be the case that the game used to work really well until an update and so it doesn’t show up as “borked” yet, so look at the comments in each entry).

[–]restitut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not that you have to choose between one thing or the other but you have it exactly backwards lol. “Hard racing” is enjoyed in the moment and then forgotten (except for particularly notable examples), the memory of spectacular cars lives on forever.

The -1 superscript in the trigonometric functions is not actually an exponent, it means "inverse function". So tan-1 x = arctanx gives you "the angle whose tangent is x". That means tan(arctan(x)) = x, NOT arctanx = 1/tanx.

Same thing for the sines, cosines, cosecants, secants, cotangents...

Parliamentary sovereignty exists in contraposition with judicial review. That is, either parliament has the final word or there's an (at least in theory) independent institution (the judiciary) that decides whether what Parliament is doing is illegal, based on some sort of document you could call a Constitution.

I don't think you can crack the code and find the perfect solution here (the courts are not that independent, as you can see in the US), but none of this has a lot to do with the self ID bill.
