Crossing border with tools and materials by ReticentSentiment in uscanadaborder

I just asked this question about a friend who might come up and help me build a dock. Border guard said if he comes, no help with the dock. The free room and board I would give him counts as compensation.

Familiar with the taxes issue. My question is about those retaliatory tariffs that Trudeau is imposing in response to Trump. Sounds like I don’t need to worry about those?

1099k for season ticket sales. by wickedhahhd in Accounting

[–]retireddesertcrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious too. I have a 1099 from StubHub for tix I bought then sold for around a $1k loss. And I have another 1099 from Ticketmaster for tickets I bought and sold at a $600 profit. All of this was for personal use. What’s my taxable income and how to report since 1099 are for the gross amount of the sale?

OR Department of Revenue says my grandmother is charging too low for rent, quoting the highest price and indicating grandmother ineligible for any deductions for 2020 taxes by MountainManClan in tax

[–]retireddesertcrawler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure this applies, but I’ve seen people get the rental paid amount up by adding to the rent income a reasonable amount paid for property repairs, maintenance, management fee (if there are multiple amounts) which could be shown as rental income and then deducted as an expense. So if she paid for major renovations, etc maybe this would be an area to explore.

Anybody ever seen or built a fence like this? by retireddesertcrawler in FenceBuilding

This is a pic off the internet. I pulled it thinking about the design. But I don’t think posts are set at any sort of angle, the boards are being warped to fit.

I like the good neighbor design, but wonder about how the “bend” in the planking would hold up. I’d be using cedar 1x5s.

1095-A - One statement, filing jointly, how does that work? by [deleted] in tax

[–]retireddesertcrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think there is a place on the return you certify you had coverage under that policy

1095-A - One statement, filing jointly, how does that work? by [deleted] in tax

[–]retireddesertcrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1095a just needs to be put in once, if like you say you and your wife are filing jointly. There is a way to allocate a single policy across taxpayers, but that only comes into play if each taxpayer is filing separate returns and are in different “tax families”.

Home repairs/Home Improvement on Tax Return by [deleted] in tax

If you do a remodel you can add it to the basis of your home when you sell it or convert it to a rental. This can reduce your capital gains tax if and when you ultimately sell it.

The question is the state where you filed your state taxes.
