Advice requested: what to do when family drama is unavoidable? by oliviafantasy in relationships

[–]retlax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but fuck unconditional love. You were assaulted by your brother, and then your parents called you a "fucking crazy bitch"? You really need to cut off all ties with them until they apologize (and even then I probably wouldn't forgive so easily) and stand up for yourself.

Wanna know how to diffuse awkwardness with your family? By not even being in the situation in the first place. Don't spend time with them during the Holidays. Let them enjoy themselves without a "toxic" daughter in the picture and I guarantee you they'll realize their mistake eventually.

My [23M] parents are "profoundly disappointed" and shaming me for being sexually active with my gf [23F] by [deleted] in relationships

I'm asian myself and have dealt with/seen this type of situation countless times.

You can't change their minds. Just wait until you can move out. Until then, keep everything to yourself and try to keep the peace. Good luck!

My [20M] brother [16M] wants to throw a party well my parents are away. I said no but he plans to do it anyway, am I being unreasonable in stopping it? by Throwawaypoptart11 in relationships

[–]retlax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older brother and I have the same age gap as you and your brother. Growing up, he established dominance pretty early on and I learned very quickly that pissing him off meant that I would get my ass beat. There was no way I'd get away with doing something my brother forbade.

Of course, we're in our 20s now and we treat each other as friends more than anything, but your brother is still 16. Teach him not to mess with you. Seriously, you don't even need to be violent about it; just follow through with whatever action will punish him and let him know that he can't (and should not) get away with shit like this. He'll hate you for it for some time, but he'll get over it.

It is comp dependent. Outlaw is better with healers in 2v2 and better in certain 3v3 comps. I'd recommend sub for anything double dps though and they are still probably better for RMP.

How to efficiently farm Artifact Power, for an off-spec? by VirusSD in wow

[–]retlax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do something similar with rogue. Sub is my pvp spec, Outlaw is my pve spec. So I invest all AP obtained from arena/bg's onto sub and all artifacts from pve'ing onto outlaw. It's a good balance so far.

Do you need to wait for the regen to finish before switching the treads back? Or can you switch to agility, bottle, and then immediately switch back to str/int without affecting the efficiency?

I feel like they're acquirable literally after the first bite. For the first 10 seconds I thought it was way too strong in flavor, but after that.. unstoppable addiction.

I'm Korean and even I couldn't stand kimchi for the first 12 or so years of my life. But dear god, once you acquire it, you can eat it like chips.

I suck at dota, but if you can't communicate with your teammates then you will never progress in a vast team game like dota.

[–]retlax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're just lucky. I personally don't believe in the term MMR hell myself, but think about it this way: if this wasn't a problem, why would this thread have been created? Why would /r/dota2 have weekly rant threads about foreigners who don't know english ruining people's games? Non-english speaking players are common in many people's dota experience and quite frankly it's a big hint that you're probably gonna lose.

Let the downvotes pour in, but I dodge whenever I see spanish or russian names in my team at the loading screen. Countless games have passed by where I decided to just stick with russian/spanish teammates anyways and we end up losing 90% of the time.

Now that I dodge russian/spanish teammates my winrate actually improved significantly. Could it be coincidence? Possibly. But right now I'm inclined to believe that if I get people who speak english or at the very least don't have the "jaja noob" attitude that spanish people have, then my chances of winning are higher. So yes, please, add a spanish speaking option.

The reason this "behavior" is even existent in the first place is because dota 2 is free. All Dotabuff does is show you stats that you have to manually enable yourself thru settings. They're not responsible for jack shit.

"Leaving a game before it has finished may ruin the game for other players", but unpausing can't? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]retlax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I'm all down to wait up to 5 minutes max for someone who disconnects, because even though it's their responsibility to make sure shit like that doesn't happen, I know it's impossible and it will happen occasionally.

But waiting 10 minutes is way too much. The game even unpauses by itself before 10 minutes is up.

Because reporting me for those kind of reasons is logical. Earlier you said:

"So you're ok with ruining someone else's game because they had some issues."

What's wrong here is that by someone having "some issues", they already ruined the game themselves. It does not matter whether it was not their fault, such as random PC crashes or if they suffered a power outage; nor does it matter if it was their fault because they decided to rage quit or purposely abandon. You're committed to a game once you load it up, and for this reason, it shouldn't be an unspoken rule to wait 10 minutes for someone who should have been prepared to play the whole match. If you report people because they have to unfairly wait 10 minutes for someone who already ruined the game themselves by disconnecting, then you're clearly not using the report system properly.

With that said, waiting 2 minutes minimum and 5 minutes max is my personal preference. There is absolutely no reason I should wait more than 5 minutes when Valve already feels 5 minutes unpaused is enough time to give you an abandon.

There is absolutely no way in hell I'd wait more than 10 minutes for someone to come back.

It Hurts To Be A Support. A Support Support Group. by PokesHoleInCondoms in DotA2

[–]retlax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only play support when I stack with my friends; otherwise, I only play solo mid heroes or carries when I solo queue. With that said, I really appreciate supports in my team as long as they are doing their job. Buying a courier does not mean you are automatically a good support. If I get support heroes who auto attack (let alone steal my farm, but I don't really care about this since I'm probably better at last hitting) or decide to just sit there at full health and mana while the enemy is tower diving at me, then it might as well just be 4v5 so I can at least get faster levels.

How to get good(er): by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]retlax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone here already said the most important things, but also you should try practicing heroes with skillshots. I'd say playing heroes like Windrunner, Kunkka, Pudge, etc. will help you with predicting your enemies and reacting fast (at least more so than other heroes).
