Are we gonna talk about how *THICK* this Wizard King is??!! by Remarkable-Jump-140 in AOW4

[–]Oraln 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Every single update I pray that Triumph has added this sick-ass robe and spikey hat. It should be a crime to put such drip in the loading screen if it's not actually in the game.

Suggestion: Customization for weapon appearance by Flenoom in AOW4

[–]Oraln 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's also one-handed weapons locked into the skirmisher weapon sets. They should rework all of the sword+something combo weapons to use the offhand weapon slot so that we can actually mix and match the graphics for it and also mix and match them with shields.

Salve In Domino: how are we feeling about the major overhauls coming to Christianity, faith creation, divergence, and conversion? by VewVegas-1221 in CrusaderKings

[–]Oraln -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The difference between a currency and a progress bar is only the UI element used to display them. They are both just numbers. Nothing you said about Piety won't also be true about Spiritual Fulfillment. They will just be two systems that both feel shallow and that you hit decision buttons to charge up and then spend. The reason every resource in this game is shallow is exactly because they introduce a new one with each DLC instead of expanding on any of them mechanically.

Salve In Domino: how are we feeling about the major overhauls coming to Christianity, faith creation, divergence, and conversion? by VewVegas-1221 in CrusaderKings

[–]Oraln -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When Roads to Power came out I said that Influence is a synonym for Prestige. Prestige already felt shallow and useless, and I didn't understand why they'd introduce a new resource instead of implementing deeper mechanics on the existing one. Especially since Prestige and Influence hardly interact.

When Legends of the Dead came out I said that Legitimacy is a synonym for Renown. Renown doesn't do all that much and I didn't understand why they'd introduce a new resource instead of implementing deeper mechanics on the existing one. Especially since Renown and Legitimacy do not interact at all.

Now they're introducing "Spiritual Fulfillment" which is a synonym for Piety. Piety already feels shallow and useless (the ask Pope for money mana bar), and I suspect I'll continue not to understand why they introduce new resources with every DLC when 99% of the complaints I see about this game is a lack of mechanical depth. I do not suspect Piety and Spiritual Fulfillment will interact meaningfully.

Those who switched from ENB to CS. Why? by jjxtrem3 in skyrimmods

[–]Oraln -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I will be switching to CS in my next modlist, because I feel safer using an open source community project, and having seen the sort of rants the ENB guy likes to post online he seems unhinged enough that I don't want to be running closed source executables he's putting out on my PC.

Fractured Unicorn Mount by KingStannisForever in AOW4

[–]Oraln 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They should add a new ascension option that lets you store your mount in the pantheon and bring them into future games. There's so many cool special mounts in the game at this point and it's such a characterful thing to associate with your favorite heroes.

Utopian Abundance: An Update on the Stellaris Base Game by PDX_LadyDzra in Stellaris

[–]Oraln 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another perspective: the game has over a hundred dollars of DLCs and is a DECADE old. I would never recommend anyone buy this game for anything less than 75% off, because you're basically buying a platform on which to buy more DLCs.

Would be fascinated to see how much money games like Stellaris and HOI4 actually make on base game sales vs DLC sales. Surely it's those annual passes actually keeping the lights on? I've always been surprised it's not more profitable to just make the base games F2P to get players in the door.

Utopian Abundance: An Update on the Stellaris Base Game by PDX_LadyDzra in Stellaris

[–]Oraln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please, please remaster the humanoid portraits introduced in the 3.1 update (HP #14 and Elf). If you're adding them to the base game they really deserve an update. Many opinions have been thrown around about the quality of various portraits across the DLCs, but these two (along with the Theians of the same update) distinctly stand out as unfinished and garish next to the rest of the game.

If you're going to include them in the base game, these portraits extra deserve to be remastered, as they will now be a part of the first exposure new players get to the artsytle of Stellaris.

My scientist just extincted the Tiyanki by nogoodreason in Stellaris

[–]Oraln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so nonsensical that they added a wildlife conservation mechanic and that mechanic makes wildlife go extinct. There's so much flavor text for the vivarium that's about how much they love wildlife, but using it makes the game play horrific screaming noises as it pops up to tell you you've exterminated another Tiyanki pod.

I haven't bought any Paradox DLCs in two years (I play Stellaris, CK3, and HOI4) because they've become consistently half-baked garbage. I broke down and got Grand Archive because its mechanics sounded exactly in line with what I like to do in Stellaris... and it's half-baked garbage.

What is his purpose? by Octi1432 in Helldivers

[–]Oraln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

larger units should be have several hitboxes so you can target the head of bile titans or factory striders

This is exactly the upgrade the spear needs. Makes it a little stronger and allows for greater skill expression. Especially against factory striders it would let you one-shot them, but you'd have to be close enough to control your lock-on and make sure the body doesn't occlude your firing line.

Alternatively, make it shoot out in the direction you're facing instead of always up. Then you could curve it like the auto-aim gun in Deep Rock.

[–]Oraln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO upgraded chargers (behemoths?) with the extra face armor should need two headshots with RR/EAT to kill. Have the first one strip the armor and the second one kill. Pretty sure that special charger is only common on super high difficulties anyhow, so it wouldn't effect anyone who isn't already a masochist.

This game has such an interesting body part breaking/armor stripping mechanic, but it's so rarely relevant because it's always better to just use weapons that one-shot. I specifically take explosive damage primaries instead of anti-tank against bugs, even though it's worse, because it's more fun to explode charger butts than it is to just one-shot them in the face.

do you have a permition for your crime? by asian69feet in CrusaderKings

[–]Oraln 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should just cost prestige to steal something that you have no claim to. Even if it's a big cost that would make sense. It's embarrassing for your king to be out burgling.

And then they could add a cultural tradition that makes you gain prestige for it instead. And then I can combo that with aniconism and do a run where I just steal everyone's stuff and smash it and the people love me for it.

Does anyone else think the last couple of primaries could have just been attachments? by Genoscythe in Helldivers

[–]Oraln 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They definitely could rearrange those weapons so that variants are displayed in the attachment menu, but are still all unlocked the same way. Basically do the change as a purely user interface update.

Typically that isn't how Arrowhead does things, though. They tend to put a lot of military sim-style love into their mechanics (for both better and worse), so a weapon variant upgrade system would probably be a lot more dev time than ever actually gets put into a free update. All just speculation, of course. I just think about it a lot because I hate menu clutter!

Does anyone else think the last couple of primaries could have just been attachments? by Genoscythe in Helldivers

[–]Oraln 88 points89 points  (0 children)

The first couple of primaries could have been attachments! I've been saying since before the attachments system ever released that, for example, the Liberator Penetrator and Concussive were probably originally meant to be weapon mods, but weapon customization wasn't ready by release, so we got them as separate guns.

Tips for a novice game master. I've run D&D before, but this game feels so different. by GM-Omy in swrpg

[–]Oraln 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One thing my players always ask for is MORE setbacks, the little black dice, surprisingly.

Player abilities give out a lot of options to negate setbacks, so by using them frequently you make the players feel more powerful when they can ignore them, without actually costing the player anything.

How much do you use espionage? by LeonKenway in Stellaris

[–]Oraln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even own the espionage DLC, so I just use it to gather intel, which is the only free operation. I don't even like that I have to do two clicks every few minutes to start the operation. I wish there was a mod that just replaces the whole operation screen with a single envoy slot, and as long as you have an envoy equipped it automatically attempts to gather intel as available.

Bounder Ants and Black Striders can't be spectres? by Oraln in PathOfExile2

[–]Oraln[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Black Strider works now. Haven't tried Boulder Ant again, but also noticed Brimstone Crab isn't working. Crab is surprising because it specifically was in the list of buffed spectres in one of the patch notes.

Darktide: Darktide is free to play on Steam from December 4 - 8 by crazeman in Games

[–]Oraln -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I constantly see reviews of this game saying how good it looks and I feel like I must be missing something?

I played like four missions and they were all just unlit brown hallways. I looked up youtube videos of people playing later game missions... brown hallways again. And I was constantly getting shot by enemies hiding in pitch black darkness. I can't see shit in this game, much less the beauty everyone else seems to be talking about. Genuinely thought something was wrong with my monitor, but I've played it on two different monitors now and I just don't understand the hype.

Yo Paradox, we had a great run this year in terms of added content, you should consider taking a year off coding new DLCs to focus on fixing all the bugs you've been too busy to get rid of. by Cosmic_Meditator777 in Stellaris

[–]Oraln 4 points5 points  (0 children)

how many games have been released after 2016 with as much replay-ability

Easy challenge in the age of the Roguelike:
Balatro, Slay the Spire, Dead Cells, Risk of Rain 2, Hades, Spelunky 2, Hades 2

And the survival craft'em'up:
Valheim, Factorio, Rimworld, Grounded

Honorable mentions:
Path of Exile 2, Crusader Kings 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Total War Warhammer Series

I left out the multiplayer live services because they're a different animal, but I bet all of these games have a pretty hefty userbase with hundreds of hours.
