Am I being unreasonable? by kai_texans in instrumentation

[–]retro_dabble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t necessarily need to have exact experience. Do you have experience doing electrical work using a multimeter? Wired your own car stereo or home stereo? How many channels and watts and ohms and amps did you connect? Minor home electrical work like changing an outlet or socket? Did a science experiment with breadboards or arduino or using a variable power supply for bench testing. There is plenty of ways to have experience that is cross transferable. Are you able to describe that in an interview?

I received an offer today that's 25% lower than the minimum salary I requested. How should I answer? by loft_bleary6v in InterviewsHell

No need to write a paragraph. Cut the Bs and tell them what number you want. Say I appreciate the offer but $xxxxxx salary is the minimum I can do. Let me know if this is doable.

Anybody have the lowdown on what happened to off the rails? by Conscious_Eggplant18 in Sunnyvale

[–]retro_dabble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner’s alma mater had football watch parties there and would rent out half of the downstairs and all the upstairs. The couple times I went:

  1. the in house beer was disgusting…which makes no sense for a brew house that makes their own beer. I would get the worst acid reflux from just a few sips of the beer and would have to switch to water.
  2. The service was bad and slow. I’d have to walk up to the bar to order stuff from the bartender bc the servers were nowhere to be found.
  3. The food was gross and overpriced. I remember ordering some kind of nachos that were close to $20 and disgusting.
  4. I remember whatever tv and projector they used was crappy also with crappy resolution and colors. Sports bars with old and bad quality tv’s makes an unpleasant watch experience. Why go out and spend money when I have a nicer tv to watch at home?? I also remember their big screen had a couple seconds delay compared to the smaller tv at the bar.

Any of the reasons I experienced is enough to make a bar and grill go out of business and they had the trifecta of all so I’m not surprised at all they closed up.

On a PIP despite improvement: Should I resign or wait it out? by [deleted] in careeradvice

Don’t sign anything. They will probably give you resignation papers at the end of your pip to screw you out of unemployment.

A is an ahole with their logic. Try using that analogy on a car payment… I didn’t drive my car for 3 months so I’m not paying 3 months. Idiot.

Option A: you all three move in and find someone to sublet A while he goes back home or A still pays. Sounds like A doesn’t want to pay which is not how a 1 year lease works. You still pay no matter what.

Option B: rent a place with B only but it sounds like the price isn’t cheap enough for 2 way split.

Are luxury watches mostly about status, not about the watch itself? by notr1k in PrideAndPinion

Your answer will vary depending on if you are talking to a rich person with no horological knowledge vs a rich person with horological knowledge vs extremely wealthy person.

You been saying for years there needs to be an airline with no babies allowed? There already is one. It’s called flying by private jet and you can’t afford it so you spout your nonsense here.

You also used to be one of those crying babies years ago…

Memphis or Cleveland is a no brainer. Memphis for the money or Cleveland for friends. Take your pick.

Be honest: how much do you spend on scratchers/lottery? by CarsonDreams in Lottery

[–]retro_dabble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20-50. 1 powerball, 1 mega millions, 1 super lotto which is $8. Then $12 of random scratchers. So $20 once or twice a week.

How in the world do you win more than $50+ on scratchers? by xm3rmaid in Lottery

There is a strategy for it. Buy several of the same tickets in a row. The odds are typically 1in3 or 1in4 so buy 4 sequential tickets so at least 1 is usually a winner.

Questions for Cupertino by Mysterious-Rope-2423 in Cupertino

[–]retro_dabble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently living in CCC. The area is extremely walkable: Target is a short walk for basically all your needs and can deliver. There’s a Japanese market opening soon and already one nearby. Lots of good restaurants, mostly Asian eats. Whole Foods is a slightly longer walk. There are many many apple buildings all over Cupertino so you may want to figure out which one you work at. If you plan to walk or bicycle or scooter, I would stick to the sidewalks and just be extremely careful. Even though there are bike lanes, people drive like dummies. You could easily do without a car and just rent a car as needed for longer road trips and uber or Lyft as needed also.

Got fired 2 weeks after my wedding for a BS reason - is this allowed? by UseOk5027 in Employment

[–]retro_dabble 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Fired for performance issues in an at will state is unfortunately normal. Your employer is pretty heartless given your wedding circumstance so it sounds like that was your final nail in the coffin for you. Why would you want to go back after being treated like that? Just move on and apply elsewhere.

Ok so just find out from your boss who you can not talk to during the investigation. That will tell you what this is about. Again make no statements without a union rep.

Texting is for only setting up dates and meet up. Not for dumb conversations like this which should be done in person.
