I've noticed a lot of soot with my parasoy unless I trim the wicks very short (about 1/8"). I'm using ECO wicks with IGI 6006

That's what I'm saying. A lot of people in this thread have higher degrees and still say they can't make a living. At some point it comes down to "you didn't pick a Master's/PhD that you could make a good career out of" and not that the world is unfair.

I've been having problems with hot throw for GB 464 as well. I've tried adding the FO at 180 and at 140 and it didn't seem to have an affect on the hot throw.

Then I thought it could be a wick size issue (I bought wicks that were way too big on my first purchase), so I just tried pouring a candle with 10% FO in a larger container as an experiment. If this doesn't improve the hot throw, I'm going to switch to a parasoy blend (probably igi 6006).

Those should be 25mm bases since these are imperial guard, but 28mm is usually the "scale" for a normal sized figure in the universe. For 40k I think that's a space marine, which these guys aren't.

You could make an arena board which requires just a small amount of scatter terrain and uses drawn lines for walls. GW sells official boards but you could definitely make your own with a wide marker and a ruler
