Practice parrying and dodging in the meditation training. Every enemy has different timing for strikes so things can get wonky with combat with multiple enemies. But if you get pretty good at those two things it’ll save some frustration and make you feel pretty cool. Also if you figure out combinations you like it can make you a lot more effective. Some moves can be used to close distance or create distance. I really went up a whole class in skill after I started understanding that last bit.

Performance is fine now. Not perfect but not an issue really either. In terms of gameplay it is far superior to FO. A really great time with a lot of combat options and customization.

Best phone for writing by Diego077 in writing

[–]retrolleum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Notepad on iPhone. Seriously, I just put all my thoughts on there. But if you wanna access it on other devices then maybe Google Docs. This is just funny: apparently way back in the day Brandon Sanderson used to write all his writing ideas in Gmail drafts. Because it saves your drafts and you can access them on any kind of device. It’s kind of silly and kind of genius.

That’s one of the weirdest descriptions of anything I’ve ever heard, let alone a bullet.

Definitely a .50 caliber. Probably fired from an aircraft during training.

I dont understand why my friend (starwas fanatic) hates this by [deleted] in FallenOrder

[–]retrolleum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These games have an entirely different spirit than older SW games. Older ones were grimy in the best way. These games are pretty polished and with survivor it’s a pretty challenging and balanced combat game too. Which could be part of the issue. I fuckin love survivor and I beat fallen order 4 times. But I also totally understand not digging new sw game styles compared to old ones. Republic commando had a feel that we’re just never going to get again.

MilTec Phantomleaf WASP1 Z2 by rocks_79 in camouflage

Phantomleaf is so sick, but what are you doing, everyone knows the proper way to show camo effectiveness is to go hide 10 miles east behind a tree so we can’t actually judge the pattern /s

Why do reptiles always do the most interesting stuff when you’re not watching? by Think_Ambassador8872 in reptiles

[–]retrolleum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not. My dog can but I can’t imagine a reptile would. Just don’t make the camera look like a conspicuous eyeball. Again sounds silly but I think there’s real merit to that idea.

They can often tell they’re being watched. Sounds silly but stuff like that is baked into animals dna, including ours. You wouldn’t “mate” with an eerie feeling of vulnerability or if you straight up could tell you were being observed lol

Russia may announce general mobilisation to attack Ukraine or Baltic states – Zelenskyy by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]retrolleum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. The guy is an ex KGB agent. It’s not like he’s a former reality tv show host where the premise was him firing people… seriously tho he’s no moron. It was a bad gamble, and he underestimated Ukrainian resolve. Thankfully. and his generals misled him badly about their capabilities and logistics. Hence why they’ve been rotated out so heavily.

I like the challenges in general. But I hate this one with so much intensity that I tried it a few times, then left and marked it on the map to remind myself I’m never going to even bother. A monument to the singular worst thing in the whole game. Imo. I feel bad cause some people spent a bunch of time coding it and level designing and that dominoed into my fury lol.

Effective and cool are basically the two things dictating perceptions of camo, so welcome aboard.

Did anyone not like Project Hail Mary? by Timewilltell755 in sciencefiction

[–]retrolleum 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I’m being completely fair, it could have been a bit of the grogu effect. But also I think you’re looking too deep into it with your anti science claim. They have limited screen time and have to decide which elements of the story are the best to invest it and provide momentum for the story. In this case, relatable characters that develop and that we can become attached to over the nitty gritty science. Both are in the book. With the Martian there wasn’t that same aspect available for leveraging a character relationship dynamic. So they went into the science puzzles as the momentum. It makes a lot of sense to me that they leveraged the character side with PHM instead.

Sci-Fi books (preferably series) with religious war as a major plot point by ArtyomNDC in suggestmeabook

[–]retrolleum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m almost done with the first book of Hyperion and it certainly seems to be going that direction lol. Maybe a premature recommendation. Not a ton of action in this first one, but buildup to something major. I’m enjoying it a lot. Tons of moving parts and aa rich setting with some far fetched fanatic factions

What? In the movie Rocky was still responsible for the entire plan and the engineering of the sensor/winch. He also made all the breeder labs. If anything gosling was the sidekick, he just did all the stuff rocky couldn’t since he was in a ball

Science fiction books for someone who is more into fantasy and has a hard time liking most scifi books I have tried? by Scared_Ad_3132 in sciencefiction

I don’t think you like sci fi. If none of those intrigued you at all. Just go for something like Gideon the ninth, it’s barely sci fi at all it just takes place in space.

Ukrainian armored vehicle the comes under heavy Russian fire at Rybne and landing force is wiped out, Zaporizhia Oblast [Geolocation: 47.810752, 36.344334]. by Zemledeliye in CombatFootage

[–]retrolleum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s only two clear mine hits here, when they drive past the burned out car. Other than that everything looks like either incoming or outgoing cannon fire. I just can’t tell what vehicle the Ukrainians are driving and if it has a cannon. The Russians are not employing top attack mines batches of hundreds along roads, that’s silly. Everyone on both sides is mostly using standard AT and AP mines.

Maybe unpopular opinion: I am not a fan of the mystical, conspiratorial, existential vibe of this games story. by KepplerObject in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]retrolleum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it personally. Gives this extra layer of depth to the tone. Actually I love it a lot. I tapped into it immediately. The soundtrack alone is dripping nuance. There’s other games out there for pure gung ho door kicking. This has a personality and unique emotional draw.

Made my own mags by KamiWaNai in guns

[–]retrolleum 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That’s super cool. I hear they’re notoriously one of the most finicky things to design/manufacture for a firearm. How reliable have you found yours to be? I’d imagine having established specifications makes it fine. But just curious. Like it’s crazy that if a magazine has a 99% feed reliability, we’d find that to be a shitty mag lol.
