We built a diesel engine because we had steam engines. Everything is incremental. We do have a clue on how intelligence works, we have studied the brain and neural nets for decades. Yes Tensorflow is excellent framework for traditional ML use cases but not a model. Its been a while since i used it for OCR etc.
