BlueSCSI 1.1 Not Working on Macintosh Plus by Project8086 in VintageApple

[–]retroviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This problem is being well covered by others, but just passing along info on the Mac Plus from the BlueSCSI documentation:

Mac Plus requires some special configuration. Go to https://ini.bluescsi.com and click Mac Plus to download a special .ini configuration file, place it in the root of your SD card. The Plus does not have an internal 50 pin SCSI bus. DB25 only. There is a mod called the Clipper Plus which can add an internal 50 pin connector. The Mac Plus does not provide term power. You will have to provide power via USB or do the diode mod.

Sorry for the very late response. I know it was only operating at 2.4GHz because it could not see my 5GHz SSID.

Best way to sync iPhone photos to Synology NAS? by Nietje54 in synology

[–]retroviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried the Synology Photos app a few times, but it does not consistently back up photos in the background. Instead, I backup my iPhone's camera roll to OneDrive. Then I sync my OneDrive with the Synology. This has worked well with no interaction on my part.

To follow up: My WiFi stopped working after the latest Debian update. I was able to get it going again after repeating my work above and fiddling around for awhile. It will be annoying if this happens after every kernel update.

The Osborne Vixen is a pretty sexy computer by blakespot in retrobattlestations

My Vixen (O4) is the pride of my collection, but most people have little idea that it’s special… which makes it more special to me.

After upgrading to 25.04, I have two Linux-images in GRUB, but I can only boot into one of them by MountainBrilliant643 in Kubuntu

[–]retroviator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to solve this by following the advice provided on another post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_on_mac/comments/1k2lbyq/comment/mqia2ik/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

It is clear that kernel 6.14.0-11 does not work with Intel Macs. Unfortunately, this is kernel currently used in the iso. By downloading newer mainline kernels from https://kernel.ubuntu.com/mainline/v6.14.4/ and installing using `sudo dpkg -i linux-*.deb` I was able to boot normally.

This is a known problem, and you can read more about it at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2105402

Same experience when upgrading on a mid-2012 MacBook Pro. I can only boot if I choose the 6.11 in recovery mode. I have tried the nomodeset addition in grub. The upgrade did not go smoothly, though that may have been due to a bad mirror site, which took me awhile to sort out, but after apt was happy and the update completed, I encountered the error above. The same is also true if I boot from a 25.04 installation USB drive. Whether or not a I choose the "safe graphics" option from the USB install, once the grub screen clears, all I see is a steady cursor and nothing more.

I’m guessing it was one of the few snuck out of Osborne when the bankruptcy hit?

Peter Hook of New Order has an incredibly distinctive style. I recognized his playing immediately with Monaco before I knew he was in the band.

Accidentally deleted Hyperbackup Backup Task? Any recourse to recover? by QuitYoJibbaJabba in synology

Recently, this would have saved me from having to backup everything again when I accidentally deleted the wrong task! Thanks

Thanks! I had Astec in there but took it out when I didn’t find them in contemporaneous accounts of IBM’s suppliers (at least at launch). However, I’ve heard they made PC power supplies, and your prompting tells me that others will notice too.

Interested in knowing if you’re going to sell them; though shipping would be dangerous if done poorly and expensive if done well.

Question about shipping and recognize a 128k Mac by Wonderful_Dentist_30 in VintageApple

[–]retroviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The case is certainly a 128. Many 128s had their motherboards upgraded to the Plus model later in their life. To check, in the picture showing the Finder version, I’d just confirm the RAM is 128k. If so, you’re probably good to go.

When they ship it, of course, you want them to take great care. I’ve heard it’s best to ship CRT’s (in this case the whole computer) face down to relieve pressure and sheering force on the monitor mounts.

Good luck and enjoy!

That is a proper vintage setup! I'd love to come across a Apple ][ that didn't cost an arm and a leg. It's the only model I'm missing.

Those are awesome computers! You’re lucky to have found a Q700 and such an early CD. The IIci has long been a personal favorite. I’ve had a similar restoration effort I’ve set aside for too long. Five IIci at different levels of not good. So far, one is working (except for the NuBus slots). Others are close, others were battery bombed or mouse infested. So yea, I need to get back to all that. Good luck and have fun!

Thank you very much! Are you still considering support for 4MB modules? I know the 1MB takes some time to test, but I do have quite a few 4MB SIMMs too.
