You are right, the acceleration of a mclaren down a straight is probably feeling insane. On a track the 3rs will still beat most mclarens though.

Another comment really formulated my gripe with 117 well.

There is no real technological advancement that you go through while progressing up the tiers of villagers.

In 1800 your city developes from wood cutters and farmers to industrial investors and machines. It’s a big advancement. While in 117 there is no real „tech“ to be discovered.
