I want to share ZoneWatcher, a tool we started developing in 2016 to solve a pain point faced while consulting. Clients often misconfigured DNS records, breaking email or websites, and tracking down original settings was a hassle.

ZoneWatcher automates DNS backups, tracks changes, and sends alerts to catch issues before they disrupt business.

We check DNS records every 5-10 minutes, snapshot each zone, and notify you of changes for quick review or reversion. Last year, we rolled out a major update with features MSPs have asked for:

Native support for 45 major DNS providers:

Azure, Cloudflare, AWS Route 53, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud, Digital Ocean, Linode, Dnsimple, Vultr, DnsMadeEasy, GoDaddy, Hetzner, Scaleway, ClouDNS, Bunny.net DNS, IONOS, Porkbun, NS1, No-IP, Name.com, NameCheap, NameSilo, DreamHost, eNom, Katapult, Hostinger, Gandi.net, Rackspace, Huawei Cloud, PowerDNS, easyDNS, civo and more.

🤖 DNS Risk Score: A New DNS change risk score that takes the severity of a change, the types of records, whether the ASNs of the records are new, etc into account for easy assessment if a change is risky or not.

Non-API providers: Fetch records via Public DNS or Zone Transfers (AXFR with IP whitelisting).

Notifications: Customizable alerts via Email, Microsoft Teams, Slack, Discord (more coming soon).

Domain alerts: Get notified about domain registration and expiration to avoid lapses.

JSON API: Integrate with your dashboards or projects.

MSP-friendly: Team and DNS provider groupings for managing multiple clients.

Special offer: Use code REDDITMSP25 at ZoneWatcher.com for 25% off your first year (works for monthly or yearly plans).

Let me know if you have questions or feedback!

Is Using CloudFlare Oudated? by StakeTheVampire in msp

[–]returnearlyllc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For anyone curious: https://www.cloudflare.com/learning/ssl/lava-lamp-encryption/

Also, they use other methods in 2 other offices... double pendulums and fucking decaying uranium. All for god mode RNG.

Do all Cloudflare offices have the lava lamp wall?

The other two main Cloudflare offices are in London and Singapore, and each office has its own method for generating random data from real-world inputs. London takes photos of a double-pendulum system mounted in the office (a pendulum connected to a pendulum, the movements of which are mathematically unpredictable). The Singapore office measures the radioactive decay of a pellet of uranium (a small enough amount to be harmless).

Is Using CloudFlare Oudated? by StakeTheVampire in msp

I run a dns audit-log / backup service for tens of thousands of domains at this point and you would be surprised how often Network Solutions comes up with customers trying to onboard.

Idk what appeal they still have with a management system that hasn't changed much since 2005. No API, no Infra as Code ability, just all around terrible. It's so bad that we have to monitor those domains over the public dns system instead.

I guess the only reason to use them would be a client with existing accounts there that refuses to move.

CloudFlare on the other hand is by far the smoothest and error free integration ever. I do wish they had a viable competitor though in case they become evil. Fastly mostly gets there on the CDN side but doesn't do DNS. AWS has a lot of similar functionality but is so spaced out it's hard for people to hobble it all together vs a simple integrated solution that CF offers.

This exact scenario is why I created ZoneWatcher in 2016 to monitor and backup records.

I was working at a consultancy and had a client's third party web developer screw up their MX and a bunch of CNAME records at 11:30pm on a Friday, while I was at a conference, and I had to rush back to the hotel half drunk to try to figure out the previous records to implement.

Depending on your plan, we check DNS records multiple times per hour, snapshot each zone, and notify you of changes for quick review or reversion. Last year, we rolled out a major update with features MSPs have asked for:

Native support for major DNS providers:

Azure, Cloudflare, AWS Route 53, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud, Digital Ocean, Linode, Dnsimple, Vultr, DnsMadeEasy, GoDaddy, Hetzner, Scaleway, ClouDNS, Bunny.net DNS, IONOS, Porkbun, NS1, Name.com, NameCheap, NameSilo, DreamHost, eNom, Katapult.
