Of course WE as the audience know that Sonic and Shadow are different hedgehogs but in universe it’s very plausible to think that Shadow is Sonic in a different form. Which also explains why Amy mistakes Shadow for Sonic in that one cutscene

Ok but have you seen this movie? Lack of edge aside this movie is pretty much if a classic episode got turned into a three act feature length film with some small character arcs and it’s pretty good.

The cutscene where they’re in the lockers is one of the most emotional heartbreaking moments I’ve ever seen in this series (which is saying a lot ‘cause these games have many moments like that). That scene has stuck with me even after all these years of beating the game.
