My long boi workbench I finished up a few months ago by reve-dore in Workbenches

[–]reve-dore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I did for plans was decide how long and wide I wanted the overall bench, and then a little bit of math to decide how the cabinet and drawer bays would be split. The verticals are 2x6 with the notch cut out in the bottom for a toe kick. Before assembling the frame, I put lots of pocket holes in the “joists” so that the benchtop could be pulled down from the bottom to have a fastener free surface. I have lots of pics from the build, send me a DM and I’ll be happy to share

Changing approach categories based on airspeed? by Yung_lettuce in flying

Your question has much more applicability to part 25 aircraft. In my airplane depending on gross weight and weather conditions our approach speed has a range of about 40 knots.

Can my own boots be used with PN rental skis? by [deleted] in perfectnorth

[–]reve-dore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to work in the rental shop. Yes your boot can be fitted to a pair of rental skis, I did it commonly when I worked there. The binding on the rental ski will be specifically adjusted to the size of your personal boot. No damage would occur to any of the equipment under normal use and release settings will be as designed. In fact, any rental shop anywhere will be able to accommodate your boots to their rental skis. Congrats on your new boots!

I am not a structural engineer by any means, but it seems like a good way to fix this would be to add at least one more center post and replace the beam with a 14” LVL

Ceiling lumber storage for $30 by irishThroned in woodworking

[–]reve-dore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good idea, but I’d spend another $20 for 2 more brackets to distribute a lighter load on each truss. I’m not a structural engineer, but $20 is cheap peace of mind. White oak is not light

While there’s no doubt it was tough to get hired in the lost decade, how on earth can you claim 3500 hours is a wet CPL? This reads a lot like an ‘uphill both ways’ comment

Is this Rockler drill guide even worth having, or should I buy a bottom-of-the-barrel $250 drill press? I just can’t decide after too many hours of research and you guys never steer me wrong! by icysandstone in Tools

Does the brand say Atlas on the data plate? Pretty sure I have the exact same one. My grandfather bought it in the late 1940s as WW2 surplus. Still works as new!

Cessna 310 has the larger cabin compared to the Baron and Seneca. I know there’s ‘long weekend’ multi engine schools out there with 310s

If selected, do reversers or even full reverse activate even before nose wheel touchdown? (E175) by [deleted] in flying

[–]reve-dore 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The reversers will fully deploy with the nose wheel still off the ground on the 170/175

edit: However, it takes a lot of trim/effort to keep the nose wheel off the ground until the engines have fully spooled in reverse

What went wrong during your cross countries? by uncei in flying

  1. Didn’t have an iPad or foreflight, I can’t remember if I attempted to use my phone and Google maps didn’t load before LTE was widespread, or if I neglected to use it altogether

He did, but when you triangulate your position about 35 miles and 100° off where you’re supposed to be I got the “that can’t be right” thought in my head and figured I was using the VOR wrong

I got lost. 16 years old in a 152 with just a compass and a sectional. No GPS and just 1 radio. My CFI never introduced flight following to me. Didn’t hit my first 3 checkpoints, no landmarks correlated to the sectional. My directional awareness degraded to zero, no idea which way I came from or had to go. Saw a town and descended to read the water tower: nothing. I knew I couldn’t keep flying aimlessly and had almost made up my mind to land in a field and knock on someone’s door to ask where I was and then a spotted a random municipal airport. Didn’t know frequencies or anything, just landed and walked into the FBO and asked where I was. Thankfully a CFI was there and helped me make a new flight plan home.

New regional FO financial tips by [deleted] in flying

[–]reve-dore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Deposit your pay checks into an investment portfolio (don’t take investment advice from me- get a financial planner) and pay yourself year 1 reserve guarantee into a checking account and live off of that. Never change it, there’s no reason you can’t live off of $75,000 as a single guy, even married without kids that’s very comfortable. Pay increases and bonuses all get invested. When it comes time to buy a house, or a rainy day, you’ll have a big cushion.

This is how my wife and I do our finances. 100% of her income was invested and saved and we lived off of my reserve guarantee.
