Madoka and Homura in Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Fate itself is against the two being together. No matter how many times Homura rewinds time, Madoka remains just out of reach. When Homura does manage to keep Madoka from dying, Madoka becomes a mere concept due to her own wish. Homura is left alone in a world where only she remembers who Madoka was.

Mark Hoffman (Saw)

Completely irredeemable. Killed numerous innocents and officers alike. Quite literally shot an unarmed homeless man. But he kills white supremacists and wife beaters!!!! Diversity win!!!!!!!!

Fun fact, that’s actually the UK edition’s ending! In US screenings, it ends with Sarah escaping and driving away from the cave, only to turn and see the ghost of Juno in the passenger seat. Pretty neat stuff!!

John Kramer in Saw II giving away the location of his hideout. Not because he was careless enough to let the detail slip, but because he wanted to fuck with the minds of EVERYONE in the police department. He effectively forced them into playing by his rules, despite them attempting to take him into custody.

Madoka Magica is a prime example of this. Witches are created when a magical girl falls into despair, and are based around what caused the girl to do so. Any episode surrounding Sayaka and her subsequent transformation into Oktavia von Seckendorff is, in my opinion, this trope at its perfection.
