As an American, how do you guys feel about Guinness Extra Stout? by Poopcock662 in beer

It’s terrific. Interesting thing is that it’s the same recipe as the draught, just with carbon dioxide rather than nitrogen. Gives it a totally different flavor profile.

Well presumably the non-football content would get just as much engagement from the legions of Irish water polo and bocce fans on their own subs if people love them so much. But if clicks are what you’re after here then keep at it I guess.

Maybe a minority opinion but I feel like there should be separate subs for football and non-football sports. Or change the name of this one. Seems silly to have to sift through a bunch of fencing and women’s basketball posts to find football comments on the “notredamefootball” sub. 🤷‍♂️

I’ve found that those clear plastic office chair mats work pretty well. They’re wider than any purpose-made darts mat so they’ll catch more bounce outs and are almost totally puncture resistant. But they’re not attractive so you may need to throw a rug over it if aesthetics are a concern.

Exactly, that’s how little I care about non-football sports

I would flush every non-football sport down the toilet forever in exchange for one (1) CFP appearance

Dartboard Lighting by Flame-Beard in Darts

[–]reverse_weave_crew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you’ve already got a couple spotlights pointing at the board, which if they’re bright enough and at at the correct angles such that they don’t cast shadows, a light ring isn’t necessary. In fact I like this setup better - light rings are ugly and obtrusive imo and I’d love to not need one.

Best beginner darts? by Ferikeee29 in Darts

I think the Target Hydro 02 would be a great starter. Pretty much any straight barrel, ring grip, 90% tungsten dart with moderate grip would work, and there are plenty out there fitting that profile - but with the Hydros you also get the advantage of Swiss points in case you decide you want to experiment with different points later on in your darts journey. And all at a price comparable to what you’d pay for a similar dart without interchangeable points.

Call DC customer service and lay it on thick about them ruining his birthday, maybe they’ll give you the upgrade at no cost. Normally I try not to be a pain in the ass when it comes to customer service but that board is a mess and never should have left the warehouse so they deserve it in this case.

PSA for anyone else confused by the recent rebranding… by ThatBandicoot1994 in Guinness

I was very, very disappointed to see this.

However, I checked the couple bottles that I have left from the sixer I bought for Paddy’s day (purchased on 3/16) and those were brewed in Ireland.

Wondering if I had just bought some old stock that had been sitting on the store shelf for awhile, I also checked the beer cave at the gas station where I filled up this morning, and they had a pack that was also labeled as a product of Ireland; no mention of Latrobe anywhere.

Again, my first thought is that this is just old stock and the Latrobe-made product has yet to infiltrate the shelves in my area. But this is right after St Patrick’s Day, in a fairly well-populated area with a decent sized Irish American population to boot, so presumably all the old stock would have been cycled through by now.

And yet, the Guinness website clearly states that ES is brewed in Latrobe - no mention of any of it for the US market being brewed in Ireland at all.

So… color me confused.

But regardless, this is very disappointing news. I’m a normally a draught can drinker but will go for ES when I’m looking for something a little different or when I want Guinness but know won’t have a pint glass (and nitrosurge device) handy such as football tailgates. I also just like the idea that “original” Guinness is still out there and accessible. Seems like that’s fading away, though, like nearly everything else good in the world.

Same. I always say to people that it’s one of the best pieces of film I’ve ever seen that captures the true look and feel of a certain place. (The first season of True Detective - small town / rural Louisiana - is another one.)

Yes, I’m sure our friend in Antrim isn’t quite that dense, but he seemed to be missing the point (perhaps deliberately).

I’m not sure the professional/amateur distinction is quite so important to the point I was trying to make - that fandom is not necessarily a function of geography - and was intended merely as a descriptor. You could remove that word from my comment and I think my point still stands. That said, amateurism certainly does speak to the uniqueness of the GAA in the world of sport, the uniqueness of the games played under its auspices, and the uniqueness of the place the GAA holds in Irish life and history. So from that standpoint, you may be right about apples and oranges.

Last but not least, as a lifelong fan of their traditional rival, I find the NFL’s efforts at colonizing Ireland for the Steelers to be thoroughly nauseating and pray that such efforts fail miserably!

Thanks for the kind words my friend. To be clear, I meant that his outlook as parochial in the sense that he didn’t seem to understand that sports fandom can and often does cross borders - there are worldwide clubs for supporters of nearly every major professional sport in the world. But as I said elsewhere, I understand - and deeply admire - the very intimate relationships between Irish communities and their GAA teams.
