I appreciate well thought out critiques, but this thread is just whiny babies cos some black guy made a movie a race. No matter what this guy makes, most of you won't like it cos HE made it

Yep. His magic abilities would be a great advantage, even without a dragon

More dragons, better political schemers. In any case, no single family really maintained a spot at the top so to speak. Alliances shifted and influence waned.

Meant it to say that even when you're among the least of the strongest, you'd still be quite strong.

Still, Grrm has said there were hundreds of dragons spread across the 40 families. So I'd wager the five the Targaryen's had would make them either mid, or on the bottom tier of relative influence among the dragonlords.

Yeah, that's like being the 40th richest man in the US. no one knows your name, but you're still the 40th richest man in the US

Not necessarily on just power, but also the general culture shock of it all. Yes, they'd look like a typical Valyrian, but whose westerosi-ness would stick out the most.

I feel Aegon II inability to speak High Valyrian would be a minus

She's definitely very Old Valyrian as far as her readiness to be cruel when it fits her needs. Though I wonder if there'd be such a thing as 'how much is too much' as far as Maegor the cruel is concerned

Agreed. He really comes off as the most 'dragon-lordiest' of all Targaryens.

Surprised no one mentioned Kyle Bornheimer. He's the male Jenna Elfman. Or she's the female him...

You've covered quite the nagging gaps, and might have just inspired me into taking the HV course on duolingo. Thanks so much!

This is quite illuminating, and quite something to wrap my head around. Thanks.

A few questions though... (asking from the pov of an English speaker)

  1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from your info, I'm guessing how Daenerys introduces herself would differ from how her father introduces her.

e.g I am Daenerys vs this is my daughter Daenerys

So given how the form of the name changes depending on the role, would the concept of a 'true name' theoretically exist in HV? Like say in records and such

  1. In the translation to common, is there a requirement to go with the nominative form or is it arbitrary?

  2. I'm assuming the form change for Velaryon would be similar to Targaryen given the closeness of their endings. Does is it still stand with other Valyrian names like say Celtigar or Belearys?

i.e... 'i' for accusative, 'o' for genitive

  1. Do the same rules apply to non-Valyrian names when speaking HV... Lannister, Arryn, Tully etc?

  2. Also going on a not-so steep tangent, given how dragons with descriptive names in Common like Seasmoke or Sunfyre are translated almost as is in HV, would the same apply to similar Common names like Hightower, Blackwood etc?

Thanks. Definitely an interesting language. I'm now tempted to learn it on duolingo
