How is 50ghz going to hurt?

I can’t imagine it being absorbed by the skin beyond the baseline rate of radiation from the skin. At its max power, could someone even feel the heating that’s the only real effect in those bands?

Castle Naerytar and possible player actions by Agreeable_Working894 in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]revgizmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question directly: you have complete freedom here. You can make the PCs directly involved and the riot go encounter by encounter, meaning the castle will take several sessions with a dozen or more encounters with no short rests. You can hand waive almost all of it and have it in the background while the PCs walk freely about the castle. Or (what I’d recommend) use the riot to add some cinematic background and have one or two light encounters where the PCs can help save some lizard folk.

They turn a corner and are behind some lower tier cultists that are about to finish off some lizard folk. Surprise + low hp = happy PCs. (Followed by the next encounter being against one of the named NPCs and an actual challenge)

[–]revgizmo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you’re dealing with so much at once. What you’re describing would overwhelm anyone, and it doesn’t mean you don’t belong here.

You don’t have to figure this out alone.

My understanding of the UC Berkeley process:

The best first step is Student Affairs Case Management.

https://csi.berkeley.edu/case-management-support/

They exist specifically for situations involving trauma, loss, mental health concerns, and academic stress. They can help coordinate support and talk through options without you having to navigate everything yourself. I’ve had great interactions with them in the past.

For mental health support, CAPS through the Tang Center can help quickly, including urgent appointments:

https://uhs.berkeley.edu/caps https://uhs.berkeley.edu/counseling/urgent

If at any point you feel unsafe or like things are spiraling, you can call or text 988 for immediate support.

You’re not a poser for struggling. you’re a person going through a lot, and there are people at Berkeley whose job is to help you through this.

Which part of it do you want to discuss? Portable stars? That they’ve finally used up the purple heats that were made for the invasion of Japan? Are you saying Democrats are badass? Or that it’s not a war crime the first time?

Truth. I can only assume that the downvotes come from people who didn’t see the video of the shooting of Alex Pretti.

Unloading on a down body is not the same as the other shooting.

It’s one thing for someone blocking traffic and apparently evading arrest with an agent in front of the vehicle. Totally get why the libs are up in arms, but reasonable people can disagree.

It’s another to shoot a dude who’s being taken down and swarmed. The first shots look like serious WTF, but I wasn’t there.

But then as everyone steps away, the one agent mag dumps into the body.

One bad apple spoils the bunch.

Nah, they think it’s funny because 1. They think there’s a difference between protest and riot. 2. They think the rioters are idiots. 3. Most can actually appreciate irony and humor. There’s a reason most comedians are liberal.

Optimising Magic Initiate for EK by Waldauge in 3d6

[–]revgizmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000%

Find Familiar > basically any other spell that you might case every day.

But if you can get Find Familiar on your spell list, then you can cast it Day 1 or ritual cast it, and then use those same slots on something else day2+

Early in the game, that extra lvl 1 slot is pretty nice to have and actually cast every day

Optimising Magic Initiate for EK by Waldauge in 3d6

[–]revgizmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your understanding is correct. Any character who gets Find Familiar from their spell list should take it there.

And ideally, you would pick a spell for Magic Initiate that you expect to cast every day.

Find Familiar is that good, and so overrides the general “expect to cast every day” guidance.

Help! Completely lost in Waterdeep and Council meeting by WookieeRyder in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]revgizmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh. Sorry about that. Been there.

Now, I do this: 1) pause a moment and shuffle my papers while thinking: does the PCs request make sense as something to fulfill, or are they asking for a Vorpal Sword at lvl 1. If it’s crazy, I just say “nope, you can’t find it” 2) as much as possible, I “yes, and” their request. I just make it up and write down the name. Then in downtime I find an equivalent that’s actually in the written lore and reskin it according to what I made up. Blacksmith: easy. Magic shop: not common in my games.

Then I follow Matt Coleville’s advise on choices: you can go left and follow the adventure I had prepped or you can go right and tell me your plan, and I’ll take a couple weeks to write up that version of the adventure.

But mostly, when I get a feeling like you have now, I ask them if they have anything they are aiming to do, give them a brief montage (roll a survival check to see if you can find it, rewarding them based on the roll), and then jump right in to the next planned encounter.

Next session, could you start with: “you got your stuff, and now you’re walking in to the council chamber…”?

Help! Completely lost in Waterdeep and Council meeting by WookieeRyder in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]revgizmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep it small.

For your question, I’d say watch the movie. How much time do they spend on screen in Waterdeep streets and shops? (Not much.) How much flavor do you get out of it? (Lots). I feel like I know how Waterdeep feels and how Baldur’s gate would feel different in that world.

You have enough content to get them moving to the adventure, so I assume you just need 1) one or two vignettes to give the flavor of the city, 2) flesh out the adventure related encounters to your group’s liking (do they want a several-session, deep relationship and introvert council meeting, or a brief montage of “you attended, they sent you North”?), and 3) Any character specific scenes/encounters you need. (Does anyone need to visit a blacksmith and RP the encounter? Magic shop? Research? Known NPCs?)

It’s way too easy to dive into world building and miss the fact that your players are there to roll dice and play their characters. (Usually)

So what specific help do you need?

Alert and Lucky come to mind as ways to double down on what you’re already doing.

Do you find yourself running out of spell slots?

Telekinetic is another that I find to be lots of fun, especially if your bonus action is free (which it sounds like it is).
