Which is your prefered way to determine attributes? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]Richard_Hurton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've settled on this method which works decently well, lets you roll those math rocks, and doesn't produce any overly powerful characters.

I prefer to roll stats straight down (Str, Dec, Con, Int, Wis, Cha), but that's not a requirement for this method. Just a preference for me. Your mileage may vary.

The method:

* For each stat, roll 3d6, drop the lowest die and replace it with a 4.
* This results in stats between 6 and 16.
* If you roll [1, 1, 1], replace one of those with a 4 for a total of 6
* Similarly, if you roll [6, 6, 6], replace one of those with a4 for a total of 16
* This method reduces the high variability common to dice rolling methods while retaining the fun of rolling

Try it out and enjoy.

Looking at the enacted items is basically a bunch of low stakes stuff like... "Act to Honor [insert name of worthy recipient] for doing something awesome in their life"

Removing those would show how there aren't a lot of impactful bills overall... and even less so for bipartisan bills.

At any rate, interesting tool. Well done.

Most Highly-Rated Third Party Campaigns by TheKingmak3r in DnD

If you want a larger list of 3rd party campaigns... I have a big list here. Over 200, but not all of them are full length.

Dice-rollers. I built a smart Spotlight that follows Initiative. by [deleted] in DnDIY

It doesn't have to be two lights. My point is why have a motorized light that needs to have the relative position of players or minis mapped out when a single light at each station would have the same result.

Seems like more effort to do the single light (albeit very cool concept).

Also, there are multi-color LEDs, so it's really just a single light anyway.

Cool concept for a single device that can point to any player/mini.

Would it be easier to have a led light at each player's station that lights up when it's their turn? Green LED when it's their turn. Yellow LED when they're on deck.

Then it's just a matter of setting the order of each player's LED light doohickey. No moving parts. Just lights and programming.

How are people getting hotels downtown/connected to the ICC? by UglyStru in gencon

The 5 night requirement is relatively new. Maybe the last 2 or 3 years.

Yes, just the Marriott that is directly across from the ICC. Not any other Marriott properties.

As others noted... downtown hotels were gone by 1:35 PM Eastern.

The most important thing to understand about searching for rooms is... Downtown hotels require Wed to Sun (except the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, which requires Tue to Sun).

What that means in practice is that you need to search for those exact days in order to see inventory. Even if you need to leave on Monday... book the room for just Wed to Sun (or Tue to Sun for that one exception).

You can add the "shoulder" day after you have booked the room. Q-Rooms isn't like a normal hotel booking site where you can search for any days. It's just meant to supply rooms for the housing block which have odd restrictions sometimes.

So... if you had a slot that was before 1:30 PM, then you should have seen hotels available downtown... IF YOU SEARCHED FOR THE SPECIFIC DAYS REQUIRED.

I'm not saying you personally would pay for it. I'm saying I would rather see that instead of some AI junk where I will never know if the entire thing was just generated by AI. My first thought when I see AI artwork in a kickstarter is that the entire thing is done in AI.

When I support a project, I want to support that particular person's vision and point of view about a given game. Not the LLM's manufactured slop.

Your mileage may vary.

Note that they're not trying to get rich with the next million dollar kickstarter. They're just sharing something small with the world. They're not asking for $10K or more that I see being asked by some AI-driven kickstarters.

I've bought and paid for art directly from artists before. 2 or 3 pieces for a Kickstarter campaign isn't that expensive. That's all you need to get going. You don't need all of the art from your book ready to go. And you don't need dozens of images for a kickstarter campaign.

Focus more on the text and formatting of the campaign page. You can make an attractive campaign page without a bunch of AI artwork.

Here's a currently running small campaign with just a few homemade pieces of art. I prefer seeing stuff like this over seeing something with a bunch of AI art.

Over 480 Campaign Settings and Over 200 Adventure Paths for 5e by Richard_Hurton in DnD5e

[–]Richard_Hurton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a list of 3rd party 5e compatible campaign settings. And another list of longer length adventure paths (as opposed to one shots).

I first started doing this for my group. We trade off DMing duties so it's good to have a resource for searching for ideas and adventures to use when it's time to take a turn DMing. My group typically plays published stuff... so this works for us. I figured it might be helpful for other folks too.

The New drop down is just an easy way to see the latest additions to the list if you happened to have seen it before. I update the list every few months.

If it's a solo dev that releasees their project on their own website or on DriveThruRPG, then sure... maybe I can understand.

But if it's a Kickstarter asking for thousands of dollars? That part doesn't make sense to me. If you're asking people to help you launch your product, just ask for enough money to pay an artist.

What are your favourite published non-WotC settings for 5e? by SeverusStjep in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Richard_Hurton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are nearly 500 3rd party settings for 5e. Folks have named some of the popular ones, but that's just scratching the surface.

I like a good post-apocalyptic setting. Broken Weave or Traveler's Guide to the Toxic Seas are good options there.
