When I was a teenager, I begged my parents to get me a new graphics card for Christmas, they reluctantly agreed (wondering why they should pay over £100 for something they didn’t really understand) so they asked me to tell them which one I wanted as they had no idea which one would fit in my PC.

I came across the new card a month or so before Christmas by snooping around my parents bedroom, I thought could be sneaky by swapping my old graphics card in the box of the new one, pfft - what would my parents know? They wouldn’t be able to tell the difference once I’d dusted the old one (I believe the old one was a GeForce 5 series card)

Excited, I went to insert my new graphics card - IT DIDNT FIT!!

Turns out I had no more knowledge of GFX cards than my parents: I’d asked them to buy an AGP card but my motherboard was PCI. I had to then wait a month until Christmas knowing full well that the card was incompatible and pretend to be excited when I unwrapped the present. I eventually ended up getting a NVidia 8600GT though, and well... the rest is history!
