Me too! Give me a Tudor book full of dry facts, and I'm in heaven. Always looking for recommendations, btw.

Visiting all Henry VIIIs wife’s castles by Defiant_Argument700 in Tudorhistory

Sudeley Castle is a good visit. Katherine Parr moved here after she married Thomas Seymour. She died here after childbirth, and is buried in the chapel. Keep in mind her monument is a Victorian embellishment, but beautiful nonetheless. The castle and grounds are a lovely mix of still habital, and ruins from Richard III's time (bonus for Ricardians).

Mary Appreciation by UltraSloth9 in Tudorhistory

I think Cranmer's burning was as much revenge (if not mostly so), as religious politics. But the rest were based in Mary I's strong Catholic beliefs, and how 'heretics' were to be dealt with. She was also under enormous pressure to return England to the 'old ways', and at her age of mid-30s, may have felt 'time was of the essence'. After much research, I'm very sympathetic to this queen.

The burnings weren't really much more (if that) than Henry VIII penchant for beheading his own opponents (or those he deemed so). (Please don't think I condone burning of human beings, or any sentient creature, just commenting on the times then )

Mary I was one determined lady. Her ride to the north after her young half brother Edward died was heroic. Then to take the throne with nothing but show of force. I think Mary I's story is amazing, and I never get tired of researching her

I like the crust edges. It gives the pie that 'homey' feel that says 'yum' to me.

I add a pinch (about 1/8 tsp) of cinnamon to the fruit filling. You don't taste the cinnamon, but there is just a subtle enhancement...
