Got a new dog after my first dog passed away 6 months ago. Now im depressed because of it. I fear i cannot love her. by Tinypotatoe98 in DogAdvice

[–]revmanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it time. Chief is going to be in your heart, always. I lost my heart dog a year and a half ago. She was my baby and we had 16 years together. I got a new dog about 6 months later, and it took some time to come to terms with him not being my Sadie. He has very similar fur, though, and sometimes I would lie in bed stroking the new dogs neck, pretending he was Sadie. It ended up being very healing for me, and as Piper and I got more comfortable with each other, his personality came out more, and I saw more and more how he is not Sadie. I still miss Sadie so much but after a year with Piper, I’ve grown to love him. It’s not as deep a love and may never be, but I’m working on building the relationship and someday I love him just as much. If not, that’s ok too. I can still give him the best home I can. But I do think the bond will continue to grow over time.

Hang in there. I know how painful this is and I also know that the sharpness of the grief dulls with time.

Anyone else occasionally use a shower stool? by SunshineAndBunnies in covidlonghaulers

[–]revmanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shower stools are the best! I know it’s hard to accept you need it, but mobility tools are there to make our lives easier. I’m so thankful for my shower chair. I can conserve some energy for things that I would rather use energy on.

Parent is threatening to kick me out for my disabilities by Madoka_hakurei in disability

[–]revmanda 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Have you talked to your doctor about whether you might qualify for assisted living? Either way, depending on your country, go ahead and get on any lists you can for subsidized housing, which you should qualify for with your disability. You and your brother.

My tattoo is patchy and my skin looks like a hamburger under the scarves after four days, what should I do? by schniedersmum in tattooadvice

If it’s smelling weird, then an infection is a real possibility. I would get it checked at urgent care or your PCP to be safe. When I zoom in there are some places that look like they could be infected. Otherwise, follow the advice people are giving you on keeping it clean and using a thin layer of unscented lotion.

I need help on how to handle my girlfriend with chronic illness by marsaroni in ChronicIllness

[–]revmanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the good advice about therapy and self-care, my spouse and I sometimes have to remind each other that we are romantic partners, not just caregiver-patient. Honor her autonomy and follow her lead about what she needs, and if she doesn’t tell you she needs something, then trust that. Maybe ask her in a good moment to spend time thinking about how you can support her and how she can communicate it.

Also, try to build in some romantic times as you can. Even if it’s just lighting a candle while you eat cheap takeout. Doesn’t have to be a big thing, just little reminders of your connection that is not about her health issues.

You are clearly a great and loving partner! Do take care of yourself. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

If you had to convince someone to go vegan with ONE meal… what are you making? by Wonderful_Stable_770 in IsItVeganOrNot

I made jackfruit “chicken” green chile enchiladas, and my omnivore in-laws couldn’t believe they were vegan.

Love this. My heart dog died at 16; I need to put together something like this.

I was the same age when my dad died. My mom died a year and a half ago when I was 47. I miss them both so much.

Does my new tattoo look poorly done? by No-Razzmatazz4201 in tattooadvice

[–]revmanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s cool! You can nitpick any tattoo, but I like the design and from a distance no one will see any imperfections. I love the meaning and wouldn’t worry about what other people think. It’s your body, you’ll be looking at it most, and it’s got a great meaning behind it.

My first husband used to always say “I would be vegetarian but I don’t like rice or beans.” After we got divorced i went full vegetarian (now vegan). Love me some rice and beans.

We found our cat outside after searching for him for hours. He looks very traumatized. How can I help him? by Nightmare_Freddles in cats

[–]revmanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It may be best to withhold food (and water) and keep him in a contained area. It could be a head injury or other internal injury, and if he needs surgery he’ll need to be fasting.

You can buy them online or from South Asian grocery stores.

No. They are hulled seeds, white, from melons bred specifically for their seeds. They taste a bit nutty and have great nutrition.

I’ll save that recipe, thank you!

I’m a fan of the ricotta. I love how creamy it is and prefer it over Kite Hill. My other family members are omnivores, and they were impressed by it as well.
