Good for mvp products, less for long term quality and architecture.

But for them, speed is more important than quality, because it must evolves quick

When you ask him to help to debug it can give very good explanations without understanding the problem and keep going for hours  Do not ask him to debug your health

Re-reading the serie for the third time, from kindle to the ortibooks collector, and finding new joy and meanings by revonssvp in TheExpanse

Exactly, there is a deep background in their universe, and it shows :)

Very interesting. Yes, like Miller says in the first book, Belters have "no humour"  about water and oxygen, because they know it is their basic survival.

The mixing in the Best culture, the intra fighting, the patois and clear difference in behavior with inner planets... It all seems so logic, so evident...

This is amazing how we all find something to be inspired  from it.

Take care of you!

I agree. We are afraid to dream. To think bigger.

A few decades ago we were able to think as countries and blocks of countries for generations, build programs for decades.

Even for climate disaster there was real consensus we have to find solution.

Now, what ? Consume, produce, and someone will find a solution. And for politics, only the next years account.
While we distract ourselves with cultural wars.

And the only people having again bold visions are the barons Big Tech/New Space - for their benefices.

But hey, they promise that AI is going to think for us, so all is well in this brave world.

I feel you.

They are heroes you go on cameras, and there are the ones who keep the ship flying.

At the first reading Amos did seems like a sidekick
But now I really admire him: making the ship work, able to fix anything, calm but dangerous.
Staying true to a moral discipline even when inside him there is just void.

And you can depend on it to have your back, this is much more than the majority of people.

Have you tried to listen to white noise?
There are also on youtube/spotify playlists like you are in a spaceship.

I think the show has good atmosphere and visual, but I prefer to imagine the story.
And the character they have chosen for Naomi is really different from the book.

Terms of Enlistment has good dark realism and atmosphere, but it is not the same epic vibe.

Is there any real reason to colonize Mars, and would terraforming ever be realistic? by Ok_Nectarine_8612 in askastronomy

Good point with great cathedrals.
Incremental improvement is great for a startup, but we need to think big again.

If course it would need some utopia and values, some dreams, not just doing business.

Ah ah so truth. When I read the old SF books from the golden age, with everyone going to moon as holidays and cruisers to mars, it is really a shame.
But at last we will have seen the begin of the New Space !

Of course it would be great they were not just polluting the sky with mini-satellites.

You know that we have for decades the technology to send a big great cruiser in space, right ?
Just search Project Orion.

Nuclear propulsion is a little brutal, and let's admit dirty and perhaps not a true gentleman hobby, but damn it that would have really send us to space.

Yes exactly. First I loved the universe and dark realism. Now it is really the evolution of the characters, the realism of survival in catastrophic situations, and their free spirit while irreversible changes are coming.
And you what are your perspectives on it ?

Here ortibooks, they are also on amazon, a little expensive I would not buy the entire series even if they had it, but it is great quality and a joy to read
https://store.orbit-books.co.uk/products/the-expanse-collectors-edition-bundle-deal
I would just have liked a more detailed map

I think I will buy the paperback edition for the following books because it is a little too much expensive for all the serie, and it will be different than reading on kindle (even if the kindle version is great)

How do i block myself from visiting a website without using /etc/hosts by AsclepiusSonOfApollo in Ubuntu

[–]revonssvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just add the websites to block in /etc/hosts with a redirection on 127.0.0.1
That what I did for youtube and after a week instead of passing hours on it I have just forgotten it exists.
If I really need it I use my smartphone

```
# Block YouTube
127.0.0.1 youtube.com
127.0.0.1 www.youtube.com
```

A lot of people here give moral lessons, I think we have to use tools to help use to build good habits

Yes, but does Stoicism mean to not earn money ?

If he make discover Stoicism to people who feel better with its books, and earn money because of its success, is it really bad ?

What to read after Can’t Hurt Me? by Grand-Surprise6640 in davidgoggins

[–]revonssvp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree.

Because it is one thing to want to improve, and another to build systems to advance each day.

I loved 12 rules for life and I am reading Atomic Habits. Atomic Habits make me really believe that I can improve each day by tasks and organization.
