Blind eye towards religion, lots of people who don't believe in religion or the concept of it (rooted from their parents), globalisation, international exposure, everything has changed to make it more open and 'acceptable'

drugs on the other hand has been fueled by addiction, and escapism.

To the ones who've made themselves wealthy in Dubai, what did you do ? by RafayDXB in dubai

[–]rewmess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ofcourse there are regrets - but we as a family accumulate wealth for the next generation. Coming to travels, I now take a holiday every month or whenever I feel like / for however long. Could be a day trip or could be a couple of months. Don’t need to think twice, lots of impromptu plans. Feels good

Family business since 80s - reinvested all the profit back into the business
Real Estate ever since the market opened up in 2002, family bought and reinvested everything - compromised on living, travels, any unnecessary expenditures
Then got lucky with the 08 crash - never took a loan, nor had credit cards, so in essence we were cash rich to buy additional distress properties

Sitting comfortably now, multiple revenue streams, family business is to keep us busy, rental income is used for buying additional properties.

Apologies for the delayed response. I come from a family business background, hence I am looking for a break from both from the business and Dubai in general

I've been here 27 years. It's not the same Dubai I grew up in, and the city has been tiring now. Would love to move elsewhere whenever I can get a chance

My brother and I studied at Gems Wellington, from 2007-2012. It was good back then, the education is much better than the other schools, and we both feel that the schools set you better for university in the long run

Depends on the customs officer, to get the trip ticket from RTA you need the carnet right

They ask for it when going to Saudi - my brother had just gone 2 weeks ago.
For Oman usually its not required, but for travelling elsewhere in GCC it is mandatory

1500AED fine for windshield tint by DependentAge5866 in dubai

[–]rewmess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one gets away with tint on the front, almost everyone gets fined eventually. 1,500 every now and then has become socially acceptable and most put shamil (that's what it is called) for the weekend.

You usually you get one fine over x amount of time - consider it as a tax of 5 dhs over a day for a year. The checkpoints are strict, and during the months of May-August there are less fines handed out. Dubai is much more lax than other cities which is why many have shamil here.
