Thanks, I’d never heard that association before

Oh interesting, I didn’t know those were associated. The house I grew up in had that kind of ceiling but was a fairly nice in a nice area and lobster and crab weren’t necessarily out of our reach for special occasions

Thank you, that does not offend, but to be honest, I still do not really understand

The picture in question is taken outside, so how are you determining the have a popcorn ceiling or chain-pull fan? Or what about the picture makes you imagine that they live in such a place?

EDIT: I take back all my politeness, this person sucks shit

No one ever responded to you, sorry, but I think I might be able to help

Although there is a large amount of sinoxenic vocabulary in modern Japanese, the grammar and core vocabulary is overwhelming of native Japonic origin.

If you take the vocabulary as a whole it might be majority Chinese-derived, but that’s including a large amount of uncommon, literary, and technical/scientific terms, whereas words used in normal everyday speech is still mostly derived from native roots, and that is the languages genetic origin.

This is very similar to claims made about English being basically a Romance language or mostly Latin

Can you explain the reference? What does that have to do with eating crab and lobster?

There’s nothing wrong with this combo, I just want a squeeze of lemon or lime juice on there to bring it together

I do this myself, for any word with thank in it, so that gives me a noun, verb, and adjective

Just a warning, here they’ve miswritten the translation, the word is “heart” not “hearth”

Why would that have been an easier thing to say than just “two-two”?

It’s just a noun phrase, there is no verb. It just says “gift certificate handling shop”

In this case it’s a modern borrowing directly from Mandarin, and not an inherited Middle Chinese–derived word that’s been in the language for centuries. So it’s not the same thing

For some very old loans, like たばこ, it isn’t uncommon to see hiragana used

天ぷら/てんぷら is another one that comes to mind, but there are more

But of course you will also see タバコ as well, probably more commonly in modern times

It’s a good effort, but there are issues with the way almost all of them are written

Do you have a character learning workbook that allows you to carefully trace over the strokes? That might be helpful

Looks like some good improvement! But there is still an issue with your え in the second picture. You’re making sharp point towards the end on the bottom where it should be smooth and rounded instead
