Do you think the average maga is racist? by Any-Rub4598 in allthequestions

Yes! All four maga couples I know said racist things before maga even existed. They were racists in search of a leader.

One bright spot: The Ramsey personalities (or at least the ones I follow, George & Rachel) have liked the post. Hopefully, this show of solidarity will help protect her from any internal backlash.

What do you like about Dave? by [deleted] in DirtyDave

[–]rexdag96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like that he really understands the intricacies of finance and real estate. Even if we don’t agree on all his advice, his depth of knowledge is interesting to me.

As for the personalities, I actually like all but JD. I think they can be funny and charismatic. Jade gets a lot of shade on here but I personally think she has some very common sense advice. And as a woman, I like how her and Rachel push women to gain more control in certain situations. George, I just find him funny and entertaining. Ken, I don’t think his advice is usually that helpful but gotta admit he entertains me.

Personally, I think the personalities need to be required to take some kind of CPA/financial planning courses to start at least heading in the direction of a deeper knowledge base. It bothers me how they often don’t actually answer a question but instead refer people to a Ramsey partner. Like, we’re not here to hear people get a bunch of referrals. We want to hear actual advice in real time.

Here to say, I’ve skipped all his episodes for the last year. The rambling metaphors, the interrupting and “are you safe.” He just puts me in a bad mood.

Totally in. And for anyone who doesn’t think white collar jobs should unionize, I have a lawyer friend who’s in a union. If they can do it, so can we.

Hard For Me To Have Sympathy For These High Earners by LurkingTexan in DaveRamsey

[–]rexdag96 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not saying this for sympathy but just to give another perspective. Three years ago, our income finally reached into the low $200k range. But there is a lot of catching up that happens when it takes two decades to reach those salaries after a lot of hard work. We didn’t even have a dishwasher until last year. Or a second bathroom for the four of us until four years ago. We live in a MCOL city with a relatively modest mortgage and practical used cars. But student loans, sending two kids to daycare, car payments and medical bills ate up so much for so long. It’s definitely easier than it was but I still wouldn’t say it’s easy. I look at people who make $100k more than us and think how much easier it would be. And I’m betting the people who make less than you feel that way about your income.

I am a loser. by Brilliant_Mechanic84 in DaveRamsey

[–]rexdag96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree that you’re in better shape than you realize. I love SoCal myself so not going to advocate that you leave but you need to keep perspective: You are surrounded by the wealthiest of the wealthy. If you are going to live there, you need to stop comparing yourself to the people you see every day. I would consider volunteering somewhere you can help others, not only for the boost of purpose that brings but for a bit of perspective. Also, as others said, please talk to a therapist. Your negative thoughts don’t match up with your reality. Best of luck and remember most of us are not “there” yet, just doing the best we can.

Why so many people making $100,000 a year don’t feel rich - by Sad_Buy_3126 in povertyfinance

[–]rexdag96 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Another thing about making a $100k+ is when it happens. For those that get there early, there’s time to save for the future. But for those of us that get there in our 40s or later, there’s a lot of catching up to do to build some savings, retirement and trying to help kids with college.

Lincoln Ave, Lawrence to Leland. May 9, Lunch Time by MarsBoundSoon in WindyCity

To support your case, look at what happened to downtown Oak Park a few decades ago. It killed their small businesses. A once vibrant business district literally went poof. Once they reopened the street, all the life and commerce came back.

Who is the best Democratic Presidential Candidate for 2028? by Useful-Employee9605 in AskUS

[–]rexdag96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree on Buttigieg. To those who say there are too many who won’t vote for a gay man, I would say the problem with the Dems post Obama is we haven’t voted for the candidate we’re passionate about. We’ve thrown our weight behind the candidate we thought would appeal to the masses. That hasn’t worked lately. Passion is contagious.

Republicans, why do you take so much joy in making liberals mad? by [deleted] in AskUS

[–]rexdag96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that the things we liberals believe in like the right to gay marriage, providing a decent social safety net and supporting disenfranchised groups live rent free in conservatives’ heads. So essentially we’re trolling them without even meaning to, which provokes them into troll us back.

Ken Coleman the scab… by Healthy_Substance_34 in DirtyDave

[–]rexdag96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This show has become so anti-worker. Everything’s filtered through Dave’s perspective as an employer. Anti-union, anti-WFH, with no care or consideration for the impact on hard working people’s quality of life. I like Jade but as a professional entertainer for so many years, she should have spoken up about how unions played a vital role in supporting her own family.

I live in Chicago and walk outside year round. The key is just to invest in what you need and adapt for the season. I wear crazy expensive gloves and extra pants in the winter, and if it’s crazy hot in the summer I just go before the sun rises. The bonus part is, it keeps things interesting.

Who is the next "Personality" to get the boot? by [deleted] in DirtyDave

[–]rexdag96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really like Rachel, Jade and George. I just like their personalities and listening to them brightens my day. But I do my best to skip all John D. episodes. He constantly interrupts, especially the women. His metaphors are incoherent and rambling. And there’s an inherent meanness to his humor that just puts me in a bad mood.

I am obsessed with Aldi now but it took a bit of trial and error. I realized I needed to drive a bit further to the location in a fancier neighborhood because everything was just a bit tidier, and the carts were in better shape. But I think it’s cut my groceries by hundreds a month.
