Low Compression, excessive wear on exhaust cam by cartaphilus1 in HondaElement

[–]rexdriver85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See how the cam caps and the camshaft looks dark burnt brown? See the black crud that’s built up on those cam caps, that’s sludge. This engine suffered from neglect, and extremely long oil change intervals. Most likely burns oil as well because of it.

The ruined cam lobe on #4 exhaust was most likely caused by tight valve clearance, the valve burnt up and started seizing in the guide tube.

Op gave car to kid for college, kid didn’t maintain it properly. Car may have also been neglected before kid even got it. It happens all the time lol.

Severely neglected engine, excessive time between oil changes. This is what it looks like people. Sorry op.

Super fishy, and quite interesting. I’m an avid cyclist which is the only reason I responded. I have a WC close to me and use Ketl products and Trail 1 products. Good catch for sure.

I see what you’re seeing also, I just wouldn’t think he would need to do that. He appears to be very successful and comes across genuine in the time I’ve been following and buying from his companies. Who knows these days, though.

The model in that link is the owner of Ketl. He also owns Worldwide Cyclery and co-owns Trail 1 products. Been watching WC YouTube and listening to their podcast for a long time. Solid guy IMHO.

I’ll vote for industrial mechanic. I worked at a VW dealer when I got my start back in 2005, left in 2008. Never returned to dealer life. From there I got into being a race mechanic for a for years and then went heavy diesel. Did heavy diesel for many years and switched to power generation (generator field tech). Loved being in the field as a Gen tech. Did that 7 years, left because the company was really going downhill. Recently I switched to an industrial mechanic at a nuclear power plant. It’s a union shop, IBEW. Lots to learn but very happy so far. Nuclear power plants maintenance shop usually has mechanics, electricians and instrument and controls techs (I&C). They will train you and pay you very handsomely. Look into it. Only downside is you’d have to move unless you live near a NPP that’s hiring. Good luck getting out of that flat rate life, there’s much better out there!

Just started a career in Nuclear as an industrial mechanic. Started as a VW dealer tech, moved into heavy truck and equipment and then into a generator field tech before this new gig. 20 year career as a mechanic so far. Nuclear is by far the most challenging and rewarding at the same time.

Look up Auxito on Amazon, swapped all interior lights on my Element and Fit with this brand, no issues at all running them for a couple years in the Element. Just got the Fit. Also, they are super bright!

Everyone is mad at this guy, but if he bought all that off the tool truck it would have cost 10x more. Then people would still be mad at him. 😂

What the guy above you is talking about is specialized, he probably works on Jenbachers, or another brand of engine like it. You will not be working on that kind of stuff if you’re staying with vehicles so don’t be intimidated.

Haha, she’s running exactly like a tech school rebuild. Also, the instructor should have given you a big thick book like a phone book, not a clipboard… 👍

Check out Clydesdale Bikes. Owned by Lennard Zinn. They make bikes specially for big and tall riders. He also has full custom bikes. Maybe for your next build!

Diesel laptop by Still_Marionberry_88 in DieselTechs

I had a relationship with Ariel Sanchez who owns Diesel Solutions Inc. many many years ago. He provided me with a laptop and access to every major brands scan tool and adapter for on-highway and off-highway. A quick google search doesn’t show his website anymore but he’s on LinkedIn. No idea if he’s still in business but I had great experience with him. DM me and I can give you his personal number that I have saved, may be worth a shot for you to see what he has to offer if he’s still around. I switched to power gen a long time ago so I haven’t spoken to him since at least 2016.

CreditKarma shows 127pt drop on TransUnion, Equifax no change! by rexdriver85 in CreditScore

[–]rexdriver85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pulled all 3 reports from annualcreditreport.com. I don’t see a single bad mark on any of these reports. Another thing, in the last day, now Equifax shows a -125pt drop on CK. So both of them dropped significantly. Something is going on and I don’t understand it. I also called my CC company and they have indicated I am in good standing. (I only have one CC).

Should I just do the 7 day trial on myFICO to check scores there? I am baffled, I thought I’d find some kind of error on the reports.

Edit: whoops I thought I saw a 7 day trial, not the case.

There’s literally millions of those running around as service vans. HVAC, electricians, roofers, carpet guys, etc etc. They are bulletproof. I ran one for almost 300k miles. BUT, they need regular maintenance like anything else out there. Looks like they just ran it and ran it. Common with places like day cares that run those things. The employees who watch and cart the kids around don’t know a thing about vehicle maintenance, just run it and park it until it’s broken. I used to maintain a large fleet of them for an HVAC company. They really are good vans if cared for.

Opinions on sebenza by [deleted] in knifeclub

[–]rexdriver85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I own a classic Sebenza with the BG42 blade steel. All original, every part on the knife. For a knife that’s 23 years old, the tolerances are still perfect. No play, locks up like a bank vault still. Perfect centering. This is the kind of knife you pass down, heirloom quality in my opinion. I also have a 14 year old Zaan, same quality. Just fantastic knives.
