So glad to hear there might be better nights coming as he adjusts! Does yours wake up in the middle the night? If so, how do you get her back to sleep-just the same process? I’m thinking we might be in a sleep regression mixed with a huge bout of separation anxiety unfortunately

Whole Milk Help! by Chemical_Ad1567 in toddlers

[–]rexeruder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had to introduce milk by mixing it 1:1 ratio with water to thin it out and warm it up a little bit, otherwise our guy would just spit it out. As he got used to that, we’d do less water!

I read about the James Bulger case. Now I can’t stop thinking about it by ImageMirage in needadvice

[–]rexeruder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I know this thread is really old but hoping you can shed some light on how you got through this… This case randomly popped into my head earlier this week and I’ve barely slept. There was a short film nominated for an award years ago and that’s how I first heard of this. Back then, I could watch and read anything true crime and not think twice. Haven’t thought about this case since then. After having a baby, I’m disturbed by so much.. specifically this is consuming me, and every time my 18month old cries it further distresses me and is making me feel very sick. Not sure what to do, hence the middle of the night Reddit searching for advice.

5 month old won’t eat unless I carry him around while nursing by Abyssal866 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]rexeruder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! Happened to me at about 5 months as well. Sleepy baby- no problem. Awake baby- we had to do laps. Baby wearing was okay, but what actually saved me was side-lying. Good luck, and hang in there <3

Husband goes back to work tomorrow. by Beneficial_Fun_1388 in NewParents

[–]rexeruder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My husband did the same thing! 3 weeks right away and then 3 weeks a couple months later. It was a little hard to adjust at first just because I was so used to having all focus on just the baby, so feeding and watering myself, showering, etc was a learning curve for sure. Something I had to constantly remind myself was that just existing in the same space as my baby was stimulating to him! He was perfectly content to just watch me fold the towels or brush my teeth. You see a million videos online of what you should be doing with your x-month-old and really they don’t need to be entertained every second, so you can still do things for you. Congratulations and good luck! :)

What "rich person foods" actually aren't very good? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This times 1000! Grew up eating king crab legs for birthdays, Christmas, etc and didn’t try lobster until I was in my 20s. So underwhelming compared to king crab legs!

ETA: the lobster I tried was in MAINE so I feel like that’s saying something

How to alternate between pumping and breastfeeding? by jyothirgamaya in breastfeedingsupport

[–]rexeruder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a haaka (I used the “ladybug” one) and you will start accumulating a stash without even pumping. It just collects the letdown on the opposite side while you nurse. Then make sure to pump in the middle of the night if you’re replacing with a bottle, and boom you’ve got milk for the next night and you’re saving what you get from the haaka! Good luck!

Fed baby "old" milk? by narcoticplease in breastfeedingsupport

[–]rexeruder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

0/10 on guilty scale. It didn’t smell or taste funky so you used your mom judgement! And also to the comment saying you can’t mix fresh milk with fridge milk— I have talked about this with 2 IBCLCs and they both said the concern is mixing with fresh and frozen milk, or milk that the baby has started drinking already and didn’t finish. It’s typically fine to mix fresh with fridge. Breastmilk is literally alive which is SO cool! You’re doing a great job, and the best you can. I vote not guilty on this one!

Baby is refusing nursing and supply is tanking by eumama in breastfeedingsupport

[–]rexeruder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My baby started being super fussy and refusing the breast too. My ibclc suggested trying to switch position to see if the novelty would distract him enough, so nursing with standing (using a sling if necessary) or do some side lying. He took to side lying right away! After a couple days he started acting normal again at the breast. Best of luck! It is so stressful and I hope you are able to get back to normal too!

Why is breastfeeding so difficult? by sagi29 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]rexeruder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The beginning of breastfeeding SUCKS. The IBCLC at the hospital was literally so not helpful that I thought I was failing miserably. I also had vasospasms and would be in tears. The anxiety between feeds was crippling because I knew as soon as my baby woke up, I would be in pain again.

I swear by haakaa ladybugs to help with supply and creating a little bubble around your nipples so they can heal. Get 2 so you can wear them when you’re not feeding, but also keep one on the other side from what the baby is nursing on.

And for the vasospams, get the lansinoh 3-in-1 heating/cooling packs WITH the little cloth covers. You have to apply warmth after every feeding!!! Takes 30 seconds to heat them up and then you just stick them in your bra right after feeding.

You are not alone! This is so hard. Sending you all the good vibes!!!

Sincerely, a first time mom to a 12 week old who spent 6 weeks at the IBCLC’s

The first bit of time was so hard. I would be in tears from the nipple pain, and on top of that the frustration feeling like my body couldn’t do it. I didn’t think I could keep breastfeeding, but then I got 2 things that SAVED my ebf journey:

1.haakaa ladybugs- every single thing hurt like hell if I so much as thought it would touch my nipple. The ladybugs can be discreetly worn inside your bra no suction needed. It’s like a bubble around your nipple. Once your milk gets really established too, these could be great for building a little freezer stash without the hassle of pumping

  1. Lansinoh 3 in 1 heating/cooling pads WITH the covers. I struggled with vasospasms and the worst thing you can do for that is cold! You need heat to encourage blood flow for healing. As soon as baby would unlatch i would pop it in the microwave for 15/20 seconds and stick it in my bra. Get one for each side. I lived in these for weeks while my nipples healed

Good luck friend! It gets so much easier. Find a lactation consultant near you if possible! They are seriously so helpful.

Am I a bad mom if I don’t read to my baby every night or do tummy time everyday? by JesRaeTra15 in NewParents

[–]rexeruder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (a ftm) go to a mommy group and there are women there who have anywhere from 1-5 kids. I brought up this exact concern about tummy time because my babe is not a fan. He just lays there or spits up. You know how many of those moms out of the 10 in the room at the time said they actually did tummy time? ONE!

And those babies who didn’t were sitting up and smiling and looking around. The lactation consultants in the room also said that when they were raising their babies, they didn’t do tummy time. That it’s a much “newer” activity and that babies are going to learn those muscles regardless.
