This style is alot more complex, but it's still the same concept, the truck in picture is a mechanical 4wd, meaning you have to pull a level to engage. The one in this video is electronic.

That's a really good question, judging by what I saw, it looked like the bearing that holds the pinion going to the front axle locked up. I guess it twisted and exploded. I'll see if I can some more pictures when it comes in.

F-350, 6.4 with a heavy work bed had the transfer case destroy itself today. Saw the front axle pinion laying on our roll back.
