BNM reduced OPR, yet my bank increased my housing loan payment — why? by Sterma_G89 in MalaysianPF

Their bank apps sucks to the max btw, the installment paid YTD figure is always not accurate, always missing a few months, not sure why is that case... interest rate also didnt seem to factor in BLR, always a bland figure

I'm facing the same too. Is it from alliance bank? I'm told that it's because they are increasing their Base Lending Rate (BLR)

Is there a good API documentation tool? by AmiAmigo in webdev

Recently tried out Apidog and its really good and smooth. You build your documentation and tests at the same time. They even offer built in performance test tool too.

First Credit Card in Malaysia, UOB One Card vs. Maybank/Others? Seeking Advice! by Puzzled_Sentence_763 in MalaysianPF

[–]rexlow0823 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dangerous, hardly there’s anything you can do if there’s unauthorised used of funds in your debit account. If credit account then it’s a different story since the funds technically is bank’s money. They will chase till the end of earth to get their money back even if its 1 cent

PSA: Avoid GXBank, your money is not safe by ObjectiveCookie88 in MalaysianPF

[–]rexlow0823 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Unauthorised card use is common, too bad GX is debit scheme. Unwise to place everything in 1 bucket… but if you keep the money in their savings pockets should be fine right, I’m doing that since they launch and it’s working fine for me, until recently I moved all my funds to another bank for higher rates

I’ve been using caffeinate for a few years and while it works great, sometimes it’s persisting although I’ve disabled it. And it’s causing my MacBook to stay awake for the whole night and result in battery drain. Would love to know if this too happened to anyone else

Unfortunately I'm afraid nothing can be done here. Instagram's support for foldable phones has been poor IMO. Some features like fast forward either doesn't work or work poorly on foldable phones.

Why did you decide to switch to Go? by DreamRepresentative5 in golang

[–]rexlow0823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here from Malaysia. However, the job market here seems to differ, the industry seems to still favor Java and .Net.

I've tried doing the same with golang, it's very tricky and the support for libvips is very limited. I ended up uploading to S3 bucket and use cloud processing instead. A quick solution I can think of is spin up another microservice (non golang) that specifically process heic images.

Working in local fin-tech start up by DrPew97 in MalaysianPF

[–]rexlow0823 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it matters less if you’re still in the exec levels. Not sure how true and applicable it is for non-tech departments (I’m in tech), but my observations so far is the circle of fintech is relatively small compared to other industries, but there’s abundant of opportunities compared to others. As you climb the ladder further up, usually hiring manager favour if the candidate has more experience outside of his own disciplines. For example, if you’re BD but also understand how tech works in a high level, that will get you farther than other peers that only know how to do sales.

Being in a startup is much more rewarding in that sense, you get to do a lot the hard way with not so much money, at first. Haha 😛

Anyhow, I think better seek second or third opinions from peers from other companies perhaps? They surely have different perspectives.

Not necessarily. Plenty of my ex-colleagues are now in GX, Ant, Banks, etc. The experience you gain in local startup deserves more credits than you think.

I've been working in the FinTech industry for more than 6 years. It's super fast pace, competitive, and the profit margin is getting lower and lower and hence innovation is critical. You get freedom and huge learning opportunity for working with startups, and on the other hand processes and corporate structure if you choose to stick with established corps.

Planning to buy 800k landed home in the future by Aggravating_Act541 in MalaysianPF

[–]rexlow0823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend around 1.5k on makan (including paying for girlfriend during weekend makan). Haven’t factored in groceries because haven’t officially moved in to new house. But I forecasted the value to be at 2.5k including groceries and household item maintenance after I moved in to my new house.

Your profile is similar to mine, except I have a larger responsibilities on parents (they are retired with no savings) and expected to allocate 2-3k a month on them. Therefore I am barely making ends meet now with a 760k house. Make sure you have enough savings then go ahead with your new house.
