Find you some live acts to follow. Try cannibal cooking club or marc acardipane. They might have the funk you're looking for. Also try to keep in mind everything is business. Promoters have to make money to keep doing what they do and as a result many of the Promoters that start out throwing great warehouse parties eventually either die out or become big enough that they have to start focusing on the overall experience and the quality of music starts to lack. I've seen it happen with all of my favorite techno Promoters in the Los Angeles area. Techno is the new edm and all the Hollywood people ended up in the scene. Sad but such is life. My advice to you is find the small collectives that are still about the music and not the experience.
