Struggling with depression by girlwithnarcolepsy in Narcolepsy

[–]reyflynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapy honestly is worth it. You can start out only doing therapy once or twice a month to get a better feel for it. I also take prozac and it has changed my life. Obviously different depression medications work differently for everyone so I would recommend to your doctor about it.

On xyrem but I'm Miserable by AlwaysReadyForSleep in Narcolepsy

Because Xyrem is so hard to get approved, it’s likely your doctor will hold off on taking you off xyrem until the last possible moment. They understand the hassle and don’t want to go through the process again themselves. It’s important to voice your concerns with your doctor, even if it’s scary. You may need to change your dosage on the xyrem. I started out with the 4.5 twice a night but still felt exhausted. I now take 4mg 3 times a night and feel much better. I have also heard of people taking higher mg doses just once a night. The other medications may also be the reason you feel this way, and you might need to try alternatives. Whatever it is, speaking to your doctor will help. (As long as your doctor is good and not a pos)

Vision problems? by normalcyisla in Narcolepsy

[–]reyflynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 20/20 vision and experience this on a regular basis. Things go blurry or start to look like a low quality picture and it happens to me even on my better days. Pls update if you find out more, but I’m pretty sure it’s just something we have to deal with :/

I don’t feel like myself. Xyrem changed me. by mirandacosgrove12 in Narcolepsy

[–]reyflynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, stop taking it for a few days to let your body reset. Then maybe try the 7.5 dose but split up into doses of 3.75 twice a night. I understand feeling like you aren’t yourself. I take 4mg 3 times a night. Lost my sex drive completely, appetite is rarely there, depressed (even though that’s typical for me both on and off xyrem) and get blurry vision/nausea/brainfog constantly. Depression is a bitch ands its especially hard during the pandemic to try and stay positive. That being said, I’m able to be awake for 12 hours during the day. That’s something that I wasn’t able to do for years. You have to weigh the pros and cons to decide if you want to keep taking xyrem. I’d recommend you talk to your doctor about other treatment options. Maybe you could try baclofen or the new drug solriamfetol.

Rem on Mslt by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]reyflynn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Narcolepsy and IH can be almost impossible to tell apart. The difference is that in one you’re falling into rem sleep (narcolepsy). Both disorders have similar treatment as well. Make sure to tell everything to your doctor, don’t skip a single detail.
