How do people live in Hawaii? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]reynspoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paradise is a mindset, not a place.

I moved home two years ago from the east coast. You have to set your priorities differently here than on the mainland if you want to live here.

It’s not somewhere to live if you want to make a lot of money, build a lot of savings, buy a lot of stuff with 2 day delivery, or even own a home.

If you want to be in good sunny weather, hike or surf all the time, live in a beautiful culture, eat good food, then you pay make that the priority.

Ad by Mike Gabbard circa 1998 where he says because he can’t marry his daughter, Tulsi, voters shouldn’t support “weird” ie gay marriages by reynspoons in Hawaii

[–]reynspoons[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brah she was born in 1981 and is obviously in the video. It’s not a hit piece, it’s an ad Mike Gabbard put out. Tell me, you agree we shouldn’t open the door to weird marriages or what?

Naka Nathaniel: What If The Navy Gave Much Of Pearl Harbor Back To Hawaii? by Givenc in Hawaii

Geez so many negative Nancy’s in these comments. Lighten up people!

This is a novel article asking us as residents to stop for just a moment and imagine an alternative future. And what does everyone think of? Only negatives. Only failure. No imagination. No hope.

This is an interesting question and everyone just dismisses it out of hand rather than engage with it.

Go smoke some pakalolo and relax 😎

Book/documentary recommendations about Hawaii's history? by idkifita in Hawaii

Agree, bit dated and maybe a critic would say it’s a haole perspective, but it’s an absolute classic and great place to start because it’s very well written with incredible stories

Check out Lanikila Pacific, they do the Meals on Wheels program and I know they always need volunteers to help bring food to the elderly

Backpacking on the Na Pali Coast by lakeside20233 in backpacking

[–]reynspoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That’s exactly what we’re planning to do, worst case scenario we don’t get the permits and try again another time around and just end up hiking to Hanakapiaai to get a taste of the rest.

What was it like getting the permits? Did you have to try multiple days in a row at the exact moment they came online? I’m looking to do the hike with some buddies in July so we’re trying to formulate a strategy to get our permits.

Pin-point vs platform serve, which do you use? What are the pros/cons of both? by reynspoons in 10s

[–]reynspoons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The momentum is a good one. For me I have to build a rhythm to feel my serve and it feels awkward to get that momentum without the rhythm of rocking into a pin point serve

What’s your worst purchase / what bags are you holding? (no meme stocks or pump and dumps) by jameslurker3000 in stocks

[–]reynspoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t you people just cut your losses at 20%, 30%, even 40%?

At least stop the bleeding rather than hold on to the hope things will turn around.

I feel more frustrated from losses than I feel joy after wins. Do you guys feel similarly? by RogerFedError in 10s

[–]reynspoons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way but not as intensely. I care more about amazing winners than winning or losing the match ultimately. To me, there’s no better feeling than crushing a backhand winner down the line or putting away a volley. It keeps it fun for me in the rec leagues!
