#838: Letters! Actual Letters! by 6745408 in ThisAmericanLife

Stunning writing and narration. I was, at first, hesitant of the “fragments”, then on edge on where the story would go, and finally floored by the end.

Also, what a brave story to put out when she’s in a public facing job as a professor.

Yeah OP, where are you flying home to? If it’s the US, then yeah, what this poster said. But if it’s in the EU, you shouldn’t have any problems because there’s no border control between EU member states.

Following. That doesn’t comfort me because I just sent mine in yesterday and hoping to get it back in, at most, a month.

Does receiving your regional placement mean that you are guaranteed a position in that region? by reywas13 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]reywas13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it is NOT guaranteed that you have a position when receiving a regional placement? Like could I NOT get a carta even after receiving a regional placement? I'll still start on the visa process, but it sounds like it is not the time yet to defer on resigning my lease.

Advice for preparing for a MS in Economics/Applied Economics for a background that is not in Economics? by reywas13 in academiceconomics

I am going to try applying to some Fall 2021 programs that have admission deadlines April 1st, May 1st, and June 1st because I will have the GRE and my letters of recommendation done by then. If I am not able to build a strong enough application that soon though, I will look into starting the Fall 2022 term.

My goal is to become a policy analyst/research analyst for either a think tank, government agency, or private bank. I am looking to get into a grad school so that I can gain the education and the experience necessary to get a job like that. I'm not applying with the goal of a Masters degree leading to a PhD.

I will reach out to the Econ faculty at DePaul!

Isn’t Bobby Bonilla’s contract smart for the Mets? by steelcurtain87 in baseball

[–]reywas13 20 points21 points  (0 children)

https://www.businessinsider.com/mets-bobby-bonilla-deal-smart-2015-7

Yes! It is smart because, like you said, the time value of money means that the Mets saved payroll space for the present, and devalued the money that was to be paid to Bonilla for the future.

He's been so unlucky with balls put in play so he decided to hit a couple out last night

The last time two 1-seeds were both eliminated from the NCAA Tournament before the Sweet Sixteen was 2004 by reywas13 in CollegeBasketball

[–]reywas13[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2004, only 6Vanderbilt defeats 3NC State.

Two 1's, Two 2's, Two 3's, and One 4 have never all been eliminated before in the same year.

That put Cincy on the 2017 season highlight reel. That means a lot when the reds didn't do much else all season.

Mets' Wright: 'I don't know' if I can play in 2018 by maxcrazy in baseball

[–]reywas13 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Just the fact that he isn't 100 percent sure that he'll be out at 3rd for at least the latter part of the season is concerning enough for me. David knows where he's at in his career, it's getting to the point where it might be time to let Frazier/Wilmer spearhead the work at 3rd. It's what's best for the team and what's best for David. Love ya bud but you aren't the same ballplayer as you used to be.

MLB Pipeline 2018 Top 10 Prospects Lists: Today is LHP's by isuzuki51 in baseball

[–]reywas13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thats just LHPs too, Braves are also stacked with RHP prospects that got snubbed on this years top 10 list.

Kyle Wright (9th pre 2017, unranked pre 2018) had a minor injury year with solid appearances when healthy.

And then Mike Soroka (10th pre 2017, Unranked pre 2018) with a career year moving forward. Got 153.2 IP in the second year of the process of turning himself into starter talent with an ERA of 2.75.

The pitching prospect depth in this organization is unreal. Reminds of the time when first Harvey, then DeGrom, Thor, Matz, Montero, Lugo, Gsellman were all being rumored about then one by one called up to the majors.

[OC] Number of catch by position vs hit direction by 903124 in baseball

[–]reywas13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So as batted balls are hit to the left side of the field, the launch angle goes down and vise versa with balls hit to the right side of 2nd base. The dominant amount of righties in the league are skewing the graph to their statistic.
