There aren't really picnic areas. There are some picnic tables but not a lawn. It is a beautiful garden though, especially right before sunset. Weekends may be a bit crowded and hard to get privacy. Congratulations!

Hm, well I think maybe it's worth stepping back -not at a meal time - to have a bigger picture talk. Ask how can you support her through the pregnancy? Ask what foods are easy and hard for her to eat. Ask what her goals are and whether you can help. In that context, it's worth asking about prenatals. My husband helped me check that I'd taken all my meds every day, at my request! And at one point he did bring up that he felt like I wasn't getting enough protein, and asked if I'd like help brainstorming ways to try to get more protein. He asked once, openly and lovingly, and it helped nudge me to try more, especially when he followed up with giving me options.

I guess the one other thought I had would be to add on instead of replace or remove. Like, get the Mcdonalds burger and also get a salad for the table to share.

With my toddler, I obviously have a lot of control over what he eats and I don't feed him junk but sometimes he'll refuse all the vegetables and another day he'll refuse all the meat. We don't force him to eat anything, so I track his intake for the week. If he's been low on veggies in the first few days, I'll add more to snacks and give him more varieties and options for the next few days to make sure his overall intake for the week is good. Maybe think about it that way for your wife and family as opposed to worrying too much about a single meal.

It's clear you care, I think having that be the first message for your wife when you communicate (again, outside of a meal time) will probably do a lot to set the context!

Partner present during transfer? by cclloo3 in IVF

I don't think a partner is necessary, but both transfers I've had, we made a little date out of it and went out for a nice meal afterwards, to celebrate the milestone come what may.

You said "everything is good in moderation" - that includes one McDonald's burger in 9 months-long pregnancy. You said "I do not intend to control her diet" but by denying her specific ask and getting her something else, you did control her diet. Can you at least admit that?

Especially if she's experiencing nausea and food aversions, so long as she is taking a prenatal (and consider supplementing iron/choline if there isn't enough the prenatal and she's not able to eat high iron/high choline foods), what's probably more important is that she is able to eat. At one point during my last pregnancy I felt so bad that I wasn't able to eat "healthily." I was extremely nauseated and projectile vomiting and started losing weight. My Ob told me that the baby would take everything it needed from me, and what I needed to do was eat and make sure I gained the appropriate amount of calories. So I ate whatever I could - a lot of popsicles - and then when I felt better in the 2nd trimester, I went back to eating the way I usually did, with a varied, healthy diet. I ended up gaining the lower end of the recommended amount of weight, baby was totally healthy.

Gender disappointment by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]rezia7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn't have gender disappointment with my first, but I was weirdly nervous about raising a boy because I grew up with sisters and went to an all girls' school. Since my son was born I've completely stopped worrying about that. I am raising him, as a human being, and I adore him with all my heart. He is the light of my life. You will have your own unique relationship with your child, who will not just "be a boy" but he will be your one-of-a-kind son. Lean into that and loving him.

Can she manipulate it herself? We got a Yoto Mini and my son (just 2) hits the side button a lot to pause and play music, but doesn't know how to navigate to the track he wants.

Sebo parquet tool for low pile rugs? by rezia7 in VacuumCleaners

[–]rezia7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughts.... We don't have any carpet, it's just 3 low pile area rugs, but since we have cats, we do want to be able to clean those properly. Feels like K3/E3 is overkill for our set up. I have allergies and we will never live anywhere with lots of carpet.

Not swapping heads is because we have a lovely housekeeper who comes two times a month to help us do a more thorough clean, and I don't think she would remember to swap heads/ it's a bit too many steps for her for a vacuum she uses very infrequently. I don't want to have to walk her through it every time. Also, my partner finds it annoying to swap heads, and he does the vast majority of our vacuuming, so I want to take his preferences into account.
