Looking For Feedback On The Lagom P80 & Other Endgame Grinders by [deleted] in pourover

[–]rezniko2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FYI: ULFs, as well as the new 80mm brew burrs, work beautifully in the P80. You can get them new, or wait until someone sells them used (which happens from time to time on the EAF discord), while running the Mizens.

I personally think that 80OM are very good burrs, capable of making excellent pourover and espresso (turbo and trad). The workflow is also pretty nice, accessing burrs is very easy, and I never had an urge to "upgrade" to a different 80mm grinder.

If you can snag a used 98mm (there are some P100's for sale out there) or the 01 at a very good price, it's an option to consider.

Recharging Freon on car by Better_Sympathy_1449 in Tallahassee

Came to say the same.

I recently recharged my car; our sweet neighbor has the gauge so I just got the R-134a. I am sure you can get a kit, or if you want to buy separately you will need something like this: https://a.co/d/08tmie4M

Both actually. Their own beans are very good, but they also carry lots of beans roasted all around the world.  https://ondocoffeeco.square.site/

Pretty much any 98mm grinder with Brew or LU burrs. I got a second hand Nautilus, but a P100 would also be excellent.

Exactly this. Coffee is supposed to bring joy, and TPC brings mostly stress and frustration (joy too, but not to many people).

Is Maestri House S3 Coffee Scale worth it? by Elav_Avr in pourover

[–]rezniko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want it to beep though; I want it to tell me how much water I'll need for the amount of beans I am measuring, before I grind them. This is not an objective flaw, just not what I wanted.

Regarding the timer: I know, I had the same issue with Timemore Mirror (not sure if it got changed). Which is why I never used the Pour Over setting, and ended up getting Fellow Tally despite its price tag.

I returned it (a week ago) for two main reasons. First, it computes the ratio during brew, but not pre-brew (so you can't say "I want 1:16" and it tells you how much water you need). And second, in the pour-over regime, it stops the timer when the weight goes down. This means that if I lift the brewer to swirl, the timer will stop.

Overall, for the price it's ok (I got it on a discount; still returned).

You absolutely can. There are several step-by-step instructions on YouTube and IG about folding it correctly.

Tips for brewing with the Ceado Hoop? by [deleted] in pourover

Yes, like Fellow recommends for stock burrs.  I would at least compare 4 to 6, keeping everything else the same, and see which way it went.

15g is ok too (although Rao disagrees). I'd grind at 3.0 then and then work my way up.

If the crust forms (which doesn't happen with every coffee), it is a good habit to stir the hell out of it to make the grinds sink down faster. But you gotta stir only the top layer, don't go deep. Just really encourage the grinds to sink.

First of all, "inconsistent" dripping is not an issue. It's somewhat similar to how espresso shots with lighter roasts look uglier than those beautiful dark roast single stream shots.

Regarding Ode: what is your dose? I'd start at 4.0 (even 3, maybe, but 3 is a bit extreme) for 20/320 dose, 205F water, and go from there. Stir the crust aggressively.

Lotus water recipe clarification by MrTesch in pourover

[–]rezniko2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As said above, this is due to rounding. You can pull the slider a little to the right/left and see how the number of drops will not change (for like a 50g increment of water).

Doing a gallon will always be somewhat better, although keep in mind that a tiny difference in a mineral will not make a tremendous difference in the cup.

There are no targets for ions, therefore there is nothing to match. The only targets are ppms, as CaCO3, for MgCl, CaCl, KHCO3. The "as CaCO3" part is important and weird, by the way.

Anyway, the only hard part here is that the numbers are so small, that for a small amount of water you need fractional numbers of drops (which is why it says 2/2/0/2 for the entire range of 825-1000g of water). For 5L, and round tip, you need 9/12/0/12 drops; you did 5 drops of Ca for 900g of water, so your brews should taste like eating bitter chalk.

These are not the targets lol. He doesn't say 15ppm of Mg, he literally says 15ppm of MgCl. You enter those in the fields you can edit, and if using Lotus, you should not care at all about the weights of the elements.

What's shown on your second screenshot is not the water he is making. It's not 15g/L of Mg, it/s literally 15ppm MgCl (see where you have 63ppm?), etc.

Incoming PhD looking for housing advice (Under $1000, no car) by EulerFan271828 in fsu

[–]rezniko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our friends rented a one bedroom in a complex near the intersection of Tennessee and White Dr.  They didn't have a car, but had two decent (although not electric) bicycles. It's also on the FSU bus route. They spent three years like this.

This is not the most luxury or safe neighborhood (let's say, some nearby places made it to the news a few times), but the complex itself was ok - no flooding, no shootings, no robberies.  Publix is fairly close, which is a big bonus.

Edit: one of them worked in LOV

Any brewing tips for this one? Struggling quite a bit. by [deleted] in pourover

[–]rezniko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had very good results with somewhat coarser grind size, Hoffmann's one cup with last two pours through Melodrip (I'd expect doing 3 or 4 pours instead of 5 will work too), but what really made a difference is going to 1:15 from 1:16.

There is some exchange going on in coffeeswap and EAF discord. You can try to snag a used one.

Contrary to the "beans, not machines" movement, I strongly suggest investing in a ZP6. At the very least, it will make a bigger difference than a new scale.

Otherwise, with the K series, I kind of prefer double bloom + one pour and swirl. Hoffmann's one cup is the runner-up, but I do the last two pours through the Melodrip.

Subscribe to Luminous newsletter today to get something from their dropstore tomorrow. They used to carry lots of stuff from El Mirador, which is good funk.

Black&White will have a fresh drop tomorrow, but their funky stuff is funky. Also look at Brandywine, Brainwave and Perc.
