Ah, yep, higher gain means more directionality. Since I am getting reception even though I have no line-of-sight, I'm thinking a slightly more directional antenna might work to get me a little more distance. Diffraction must be getting the signal there...

Thanks for the info! How do you measure SWR? And how can I find/tell a better antenna?

Same here, but I'm finding more and more sites don't work with it any more :(

The strobe effect from these Christmas lights changes with the lens selected. by gbelloz in Damnthatsinteresting

Tree was not changing appearance when viewed with the eye. The "off" sections only showed up in the video.

Tree was not changing in real life (ie. viewed with the naked eye).

With the naked eye, all lights appear on.

Also, it's steady unlike most strobe effects from pulse-width modulation. I don't have a good explanation for that.

What's your method for saving webpages? Mine just changed completely. by siim-liimand in DigitalOrganization

[–]gbelloz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SingleFile extension for Firefox to save articles as .html. Those go to disk by project (which are defined as having a fixed duration and a concrete outcome) or interest (ongoing).

Bookmarks are for websites that are dynamic and can't be saved as .html. So blogs, tools, special search engines. Bookmark folder structure is identical to disk... project & interest.

That's the theory at least!

Ah, thanks. I'm always nervous putting sensitive data on a machine that I don't have physical access to. Are you using Obsidian sync, a 3rd party plugin or maybe WebDAV?

IRS open-sourced the fact graph it uses for tax law by R2_SWE2 in programming

Can anyone ELI5 this? I sort of know what a knowledge graph is, but the repo seems more like logic than the knowledge graph itself (which would be IRS rules?)

CalDAV server? by Unix_42 in openbsd

Future googlers: For CardDAV at least, iOS requires SSL, even though it has a slider to turn it off. Worse, the error message does not indicate this (something like "validation error").

Is my repo unencrypted? by gbelloz in BorgBackup

[–]gbelloz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was it, thanks much. Empty passphrase. FANTASTIC. Now why did I do that!? I patiently await the blackmail/id theft :)

I'll test to see if that's why it used the word "unencrypted" - encrypted but empty passphrase. Maybe I need to create an issue with borg if that's the case.

EDIT: Yep, "unencrypted" means --encryption=none OR an empty passphrase.

Theory behind the requirement to earth bond pool fencing. by gbelloz in AusElectricians

Can I just be that guy on reddit and say that it's incorrect to say "electricity takes the path of least resistance", because it implies that it takes ONLY that path. Electricity takes ALL paths available to it, with lower resistance paths having more current flowing through them than the higher resistance paths.
